If you’re coming to Animal Crossing: New Leaf from New Horizons (like I did), you will quickly find out that managing your inventory & storage space is nowhere as efficient, but on the positive side, since there’s no crafting system you definitely won’t need as much space!

Starting out, your character will have 16 inventory slots in his / her pockets, and sadly there’s nothing you can do to upgrade this capacity. Any tools you carry will also take space in your pockets, but at least the one you are currently holding in your hands won’t – which can be a lifesaver sometimes!

A Small Trick to Get Extra Inventory Space in New Leaf

As mentioned there’s nothing you can do to upgrade your inventory size, but there’s a neat – but kinda time-consuming – trick you can take advantage of!

You can actually attach items into the letters you carry on your character, and you can carry up to 10 letters, so that’s 10 additional inventory slots you can use to get around your chores faster.

How to Access & Use Your Storage Space in New Leaf

Since you will need your pockets as empty as possible when going about gathering, you will need some extra space to store extra clothes, furniture or other items you don’t want to sell yet.

There is a “global” storage space for each of your characters, able to hold up to 180 items, and you can access it from:

  • The locker inside the train station.
  • The lockers inside the museum’s 2nd floor.
  • Any wardrobe / dresser furniture you put in your house.

All of these items use a shared storage space of 180 slots, so interacting with any of them will let you access all your items.
