Owning a good headset is very important for in-game awareness, especially for FPS games. Besides the strategic in-game advantages though, a good headset will maximize the experience of every single game that has good soundtracks and heavy-bass sound effects.

Your needs might differ, depending on what kind of games you’re mostly into playing. If you play mostly MMO games, for example, you would probably like to focus more on mic quality and performance on team-speak communication, than having virtual surround sound, which is mostly useful on FPS games, where you need to hear footsteps and bullets direction.

The following list includes headsets that have from awesome – to at least decent – audio and mic quality, without exceeding a normally expected budget for a good headset.

Logitech G430 7.1

Price: 79,99$

Value for money is what describes the Logitech G430 7.1 headset. It is a very comfortable headset, and a perfect match for those who don’t care about fancy designs, but mostly for convenient and team-speak friendly features.

The headset is mostly made of plastic which makes it light enough to wear on long gaming sessions. Ear cups can be rotated and the ear pads equipped are washable, and made of e-sports cloth material, which is anti-sweat. Also, its cable is fabricated and has mute and volume controls on it. The cable is almost 10ft, which makes it convenient to order behind your desk or screen.

Ear cups might be kind of a problem for some head and ear shapes, as they are a little bigger than usual. This problem might cost the surround sound effect, which otherwise will work perfectly fine.

The mic is pretty good for team communication purposes, and noise canceling helps to eliminate external sounds while gaming. The detachable sound card adaptor, is the real “pro” of this headset, as it makes it 100% compatible on all consoles and PC, without the need of a high-end sound card.

HyperX Cloud II

Price: 89,99$

If you are demanding high-quality audio from a headset, but you don’t want to negotiate on the design or the quality of the materials, HyperX Cloud II is the perfect match and comes at a good price as well! Exclusively designed for gamers, and FPS fans will find their perfect match if they buy this headset.

This headset is equipped with 53mm magnet drivers and 7.1 virtual surround sound, which will help with in-game position awareness, as the virtual surround sound is optimal to hear things such as bullets and steps direction. The mic is pretty decent, suitable for team-speaking, with noise and echo cancellation and it is detachable, a factor that expands its lifetime since you can store it in safety when you don’t need it.

The ear pads are made from 100% memory foam to provide comfort and the headband is made of faux-leather. If you are used to light-weight headsets, it might be slightly uncomfortable, especially if you wear glasses. It is finally fully compatible with mobiles, PC and Mac, PS4 and Xbox One, with the use of the adaptor.

Sennheiser GSP 300

Price: 99,95$

Another excellent choice for the ones that want to have quality on a low budget, is the Sennheiser GSP 300! It provides everything that a gamer needs, but lacks some features that some might find them necessary, and others can do fine without them.

This model is very comfortable, made out of light materials and with faux leather covered earpads, shaped properly to fit an ear without pressing. Unfortunately, you don’t get a second pair of ear pads, which means you will have to clean them often in order to preserve. A split headband is also equipped, with memory foam as well, to avoid pressure on the top of the head.

The audio is not virtual surround, which is the real reason behind the low cost if you ask me. The audio does not lack depth or clearness though, and it works perfectly fine for the ones that don’t need to “get geeky” with the sound.

The microphone is not detachable, which is a con for me, but not enough to not include it in the list, as it works perfectly fine for in-game communication purposes. The mic is also noise canceling and it mutes when you turn it upwards. This headset is compatible with almost anything, by using the included adaptor.

ROCCAT Khan AIMO

Price: 100,00$

Roccat Khan AIMO comes with simple yet appealing design and sets high standards on audio quality an comfort. Its price is not representative of its features and quality, as you can find the same features much more expensive in the market.

The excellent audio that Roccat Khan Aimo offers, is the first thing needed to be mentioned, as it is equipped with 50mm drivers that deliver the 7.1 surround sound perfectly. You also can create different sound profiles if you want to swap on different audio settings between your games.

The microphone is not detachable but mutes when turned upwards. It has a pretty good performance and the voice sounds real and clear. Even though the mic is not detachable, it’s positioning is pretty convenient.

Roccat Khan AIMO’s design might not be something unique and fancy, but it’s ergonomic built is what it offers instead. It is low weight overall, with adjustable stainless steel sliders and memory foam ear pads: an ideal combination of features that provide comfort over long gaming sessions.

Steelseries Arctis 5 – 2019 Edition

Price: 129,99$

SteelSeries is known for its comfortable headsets and high-quality materials. The Arctis 5 2019 Edition is no exception, with its best part being its crystal clear and noise canceling mic. It is also a great choice for the ones that want their music sound quality as good as it is in-game.

There are two colors available, black and white, and you can customize the color of the elastic-headband equipped. The headband is adjustable and provides excellent support for the head, even if the weight of the headset isn’t too much to handle, as it is mostly made of plastic. Unfortunately, the headset’s cable is pretty long and made of rubber, which makes it a little fragile and easy to get tangled.

The overall design is simple yet elegant, with RGB customizable lights giving it the needed “gaming” look. On the left ear cup, there are controls which you can use to mute the mic or adjust the volume. Another useful feature is the USB ChatMix dial, with which you can balance your in-game and voice chat sound volume so you can focus on what you find necessary with just a switch.

The sound is crystal clear and has a very satisfying bass effect, with the option of 7.1 surround sound included, which performs excellent for music and games as well. You can customize your audio settings to fit different activities and games, through the SteelSeries Engine. The microphone, as previously mentioned, is really the best thing you get with this headset, as besides the excellent noise-canceling performance it is easy to store back in the headphone with just a push-in.

Corsair Void PRO RGB Wireless

Price: 129,99$

Corsair Void PRO RGB Wireless is your best bet if you need to go wireless, and you don’t want to lose the sound and mic quality you are used with wired headsets. Also, it is a good choice if you consider the most wireless headsets a bit pricey, as Void PRO comes at a good price for the features that it offers.

The design is obviously to satisfy gamers, even if its plastic cover might seem a bit “cheap” to you, but thank’s to the mostly-plastic material that is made it is pretty light-weight to wear for hours. On the outside of each ear cup, there is an RGB Corsair logo which is customizable and the ear cup is shaped perfectly to fit the ears without pressure. Its clothed parts are made of breathable microfiber mesh fabric and memory foam, materials that provide comfort and heat reduce over long gaming sessions.

The headset features 50mm neodymium speaker drivers and 7.1 surround sound to enjoy gaming while having the audio direction advantage. The microphone performs pretty well while being noise canceling and also giving you the ability to mute it by pushing it upwards, and the LED light indicator equipped, will assure the mute mode. You can use the headset wirelessly, on a range up to 40 ft and its battery life lasts up to 16hrs.

Price: 149,99$

Last, but definitely not least, Logitech G935 Wireless 7.1 is the king of wireless headsets, has the upper hand on functionality and quality build with excellent surround sound performance, and all of these, without lacking comfort or design necessities.

Logitech equipped this beast with upgraded with the increased diameter, Pro-G 50 mm drivers, which are made with high-quality woven hybrid mesh that gets the depth of low-frequency sounds and clearness of your high-frequency sounds experience on the next level! The mic included is an enhanced boom mic with a LED light that indicates the mute mode. The mic can be folded back into the headphones when not in use. The microphone though, in terms of performance, could be slightly better. Not a huge deal-breaker though, as it’s clear enough to achieve team-speak.

The headset is overall comfortable and light enough for long use, with ear cups and headband dressed in deluxe leatherette. Ear pads are large and fit completely around the ears, but with no pressure on soft tissues. You can keep your ear cups clean, as they are removable and washable. Also, with Logitech G HUB software you can personalize the RGB lighting options, as well as the program in-game commands, audio preferences and more!

Heavily devoted to FPS games, but I still enjoy a well-written story game or survival games that include crafting. I really enjoy gaming with friends, but my friends usually play other kinds of games, so I'm mostly a solo-queue player and totally used to it.
