The success of Square Enix’s Nier Automata introduced many to the franchise. A series that wasn’t too popular even amongst role-playing veterans. Luckily, the Nier Automata’s well-deserved success brought several demands by fans to remaster the original Nier game. Alas, that wish was finally fulfilled.
Now everyone who hasn’t had the chance to experience Nier Replicant before can do so now, thank this fine remastered release of the original game. The remaster comes injected with improvised visuals and an enhanced combat system almost identical to that of Nier Automata.
To make the experience even better, the modding community has cooked various mods that improve the game. Whether you’re looking for graphical mods, character mods, or any miscellaneous tricks, you can read it all down below.

Similar to the case with Nier Automata, Special K is a must-download mod for the game. The mod increases the framerates, smoothens the game’s overall speed, and introduces a couple of optimizations for G-Sync users as well. Not only that but also a high number of mods won’t work for you without Special K at your disposal. For anyone wanting to jump into Nier Replicant, definitely download the Special K aka Radical Replicant mod beforehand.

Replicant’s Little Helper is a compilation of essential mods. What makes this mod important is that it has everything set in place for you. Little Helper contains the Ultrawide Fix, and 3Dmigoto mods like PS4 Buttons Prompts. Additionally, this pack also comes loaded with ReShade and Special K all in one place.
Make sure you have Special K working before you install any mod in the package. Once you got Special K up and running, all you have to do is grab and drop the zip file into the Nier Replicant main folder.

While Nier Replicant’s remaster is tenfold better than the original in several aspects, it sadly lacks vibrant colours. The reason could be an artistic decision by the developer, technical limitations, or perhaps a deliberate nod to the game’s thematic elements.
Either way, this mod created by Okjaye injects the game with vibrant colours making the changes feel like night and day. For newcomers and returning players alike, the mod is a must-download.

Nier Replicant’s cutscenes look fantastic, but there’s a way to make them look even better. Thanks to this mod created by NomNom1712, not only are your cutscenes will be remastered to a clean 4k resolution, but they will also run at constant 60fps.
Note: The only downside to this mod is that you need a beefy PC to keep a steady performance going.

If you’re not bothered by the original cutscenes’ resolution, you can just opt for this mod by EVPointMaster. It basically replaces all of the original cutscenes with pre-rendered cutscenes AI interpolated with Flowframes up to 120FPS.
Note: You don’t need a high-end computer to run this mod, but definitely not a potato.

In a previous discussion, I mentioned the PS4 Buttons Prompts mod by 3Dmigoto, which allows you to use PlayStation buttons in the game. This mod, created by Ritz, is a variation of Paetra’s Playstation Button mod and adds Nintendo Switch buttons to the game.
It’s worth noting that you’ll need to have Paetra’s mod installed before using the NSW button replacer. The only drawback of this mod is that it’s currently not compatible with Special K, but modders are actively working on a solution.

For those who own multiple controllers, the “PS3 Button Prompts” mod is an excellent option. This mod includes a variety of button prompts for different controllers, such as Dualshock 3, Dualshock 4, Steam Controller, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
The modder has also mentioned the possibility of adding a DualSense button prompt in the future, according to their page.

Created by Asiern, this is a versatile tool made specifically for NieR Replicant. While it is essentially a cheat engine mod, it’s much more than just a basic one.
One of the features that come loaded within the ReplicantGadget mod is the ability to swap Nier’s character at any time. One time you’ll be playing as Nier, then the other hour as father Nier, which is kind of cool.
On top of this, the mod allows players to tinker with their stats. For instance, it is possible to have unlimited health and magic along with the ability to up or decrease your level. For those who are struggling with the game, perhaps this mod will help.
Not too important, but definitely worth trying, at least once.

The initial release of NieR in the Western market was under the title NieR Gestalt, while in Japan it was launched as NieR Replicant exclusively for the PlayStation 3 console. The distinction between the two versions lies in the protagonist’s age and relationship to the character they are trying to cure. In NieR Gestalt, the player controls an old man on a quest to find a remedy for his daughter’s affliction, whereas in Replicant, the player assumes the role of a young man striving to free his sister from a malicious ailment.
The remastered version of NieR, titled NieR Replicant ver.1.22474487139…, is based on the Japan-exclusive release of the game. Therefore, it does not feature the playable character of Papa NieR, who was only present in the Western version of the original game, known as NieR Gestalt. (Note: Papa Nier was also available for the Japanese and South Korean releases on the Xbox 360)

If you forget to download the voice mod alongside Papa Nier’s mod installation, it can lead to an awkward experience since Papa Nier’s voice will be indistinguishable from the default character voice. This is the original English voice from Nier Gestalt console releases voiced by Jamieson Price. Hopefully, the modder will also add Japanese voice-overs too in the foreseeable future.
