It Takes Two is another example of a 3D platformer done right, to my surprise the game doesn’t just perfect the platformer genre, there is a lot to enjoy here with some insane and fun ideas. To your knowledge, the game cannot be played solo as it was made from scratch for co-op play. Two players join locally or online to venture into the world of two couples who have been turned into little dolls. Now as they discover the world through the eyes of their miniature self they must work as a team to overcome certain obstacles and find a way to turn back to normal humans. While the Nintendo Switch version is clearly inferior to the console counterpart, the portability aspect still makes up for it big time, especially for players on the go.

As always the player control Yoshi in a 2.5D environment the goal is to reach the last checkpoint while jumping from one platform to the other and using your abilities to take down enemies. Yoshi can use his tongue to swallow foes turning them into eggs, the eggs can be used as ammo to shoot down further enemies or to open up passages. While the game doesn’t try to change a lot compared to Wooly World the solid gameplay formula isn’t something that can get you bored as it’s so much fun and offer so many possibilities and hidden collectible.

The game follows the story of Cuphead and his brother, Mugman, who are two characters who live in Inkwell Isle. They make a deal with the devil to collect souls in exchange for their freedom. Cuphead offers a decent array of linear stages with brutal difficulty and an even harder boss encounter. The goal of each stage is to defeat the last boss in order to move on to the next one. As the couple progress through the game, they can acquire new weapons and abilities to help them in their quest. While this game might be too brutal for my taste I’m sure challenge seekers will find joy to play this gem as it will keep them busy for a long time.
