Nintendo saved their latest Mario Kart entry from the Nintendo Wii U failure. The game was fully ported to the switch, supporting both docked and portable mode and adding some additional minor contents such as new battle mode and exclusive courses. Similar to the previous Mario Kart titles the player competes on one of several Mario-inspired kart racing courses.

The goal on each course is to reach the finish line first while using many different powerups and attacks that can be acquired all over the racing tracks. Unique to this entry is the anti-gravity racing feature, using this new feature the player can race on walls and ceilings and many more. The game also features a huge array of new vehicles including the base game and many DLCs contents. Overall, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe continued the legacy of the amazing Mario Kart franchise offering a great kart racing game if not one of the best Kart racing games ever.

The game act as a spiritual sequel to the Wii U title Fast Racing Neo and features intense, high-speed racing action. Players race across a variety of tracks, with the goal of reaching the finish line first.

The core gameplay revolves around the concept of “boosting”. Players can charge up their boost meter by driving over boost pads on the track and using it to gain a speed boost. The game also features “anti-gravity” sections, where players can drive on walls and ceilings to gain extra speed. The game features a variety of tracks, each with its own unique theme and layout. Players can also customize their vehicles with various parts. Overall, the switch port is well put together despite the slight graphical downgrade, I still recommend this gem, especially for the switch portability.

Both the characters and the tracks are hugely inspired by the Final Fantasy universe. There is a story mode where the player can race in tournaments, unlocking new customization and of course new playable characters. Cruis’n Blast is a weirdly timed port of an arcade exclusive game, and it obviously takes inspiration from the Asphalt series. The game takes a simple approach offering a full arcade experience, with goofy controls, and extremely unrealistic driving mechanics.

In addition to your typical arcade racing elements, the game put a huge emphasis on speed. Racing through the tracks is extremely fast but fear not as the controls are very simple and you can rarely crash. In addition, you can perform all sorts of stunts and takedowns on your enemies which is crucial to gain the upper hand. Drifting is also extremely undemanding giving casual players the chance to enjoy the game on the go. Overall, this a simple arcade racing game that can be played by all gamers of all skills, if you’re looking for some brainless fun solo or with friends, this might be your next pickup.

Redout is a futuristic racing game to the core, the game takes huge inspiration from classic series like Wipeout and F-Zero. The only difference here is the speed, if you thought F-Zero was too fast you should try Redout. The game put the player on a series of futuristic racing events where the goal is of course reaching the finish line first.

While the premise seems simple the incredible speed and the health meter offer a huge challenge. The player must focus on turns and curves in the track while keeping an eye on the health meter. If your vehicle takes enough damage it will eventually explode leading to your disqualification or respawning depending on the race rules. On the whole, this is a solid entry, especially for challenge seekers and veteran players.

MotoGP 19 is a full fledge moto racing sim on the Nintendo Switch. While the visuals took an obvious hit on the switch compared to the console counterpart the gameplay is still solid giving this game a well-earned place on this list.

The game is basically a riding simulator, you’ll take on various racing events across asphalt-based tracks where the goal is to outsmart the enemy AI and reach the finish line first. Since this is a hardcore riding simulation game the player must count every brake and every move to be able to win the race. The game offers a wide array of game modes including a career mode where you can create your own rider, join a team, and race in various events across the globe. Overall, the game is well worth it if you’re willing to overlook some graphical dips or you prioritize potability over graphics just like myself.

Smurfs Kart is a cutesy kart racer aimed at casual players or people who are looking for a relaxing racing game. While this game is not perfect by any means, it surprised me by how well it was executed, with some of the most beautiful tracks I have ever seen.

As anticipated you control one of many characters from the smurf universe, competing in different racing events with your typical kart racing elements. You can collect boosts, attacks, and traps alongside the track to keep your enemies behind and take the lead. The game offer three main game mode to choose from including Grand Prix, Time Trial, and single races. While the game doesn’t shy out from quoting Mario Kart I still hugely recommend it as the tracks offer a whole different feel compared to Mario Kart and such.
