15 Best Nintendo Wii RPG Games

The role playing genre was a massive success on the early Nintendo consoles bringing to the world titles like Dragon warrior (aka Dragon Quest), Chrono Trigger, Earth Bound, and more. The Nintendo Wii was home to a lot of role-playing games taking advantage of the new and fun controls the console had to offer paving the way for the developers’ creativity, introducing innovative gameplay mechanics that made the genre accessible to newcomers.

Unfortunately, some of these games stayed in the shadows for a very long time, a few were ported and remastered to various consoles later (Xenoblade Chronicles, Little King’s Story, Chocobo Dungeon) leading to gaining greater success and even turning into big franchises.

With so many options to choose from, there is something here for every type of gamer. Today we are blowing the dust off the Wii RPGs library to bring to you our top 15 Wii RPGs of all time.

Super Paper Mario is an RPG/Platforming game and the third installment in the Paper Mario series. This one took a different approach regarding gameplay compared to the previous games in the series, instead of a turn-based battle system the game is in real-time. The story starts with princess Peach being kidnapped again (I know) by Count Bleck as always Mario comes to the rescue jumping to another dimension with the help of his new friend Tippi Mario needs to find 8 pure hearts to save the situation and stop Count Bleck’s master plan to destroy dimensions.

There are 4 playable characters Mario, Peach, Bowser, and Luigi. You can earn experience points by beating enemies the traditional way while solving various puzzles and revealing secrets by swapping between the 2d world and the 3d one, if you’re into classic 2d platforming games with slight RPGs elements you should definitely pick up Super Paper Mario.

Fragile Dreams is an action JRPG with the most stunning visuals on the Wii but hopefully, it has more than just looks. You take control of Seto a young boy who travels through a mysterious apocalyptic version of earth in hopes that he finds any survivors. You traverse the ruins fighting off ghosts in a 3rd person perspective, moving with the Wii Nunchuk and pointing/aiming at the ghosts with the Wii mote.

The game controls might be a bit rough around the edges but the game has an amazing story to tell, bringing to the surface topics like isolation, death, and memories. If you’re into action JRPGs with a pinch of awkwardness and mystery this is definitely for you.
