Bulletstorm is a brilliant First Person Shooter game that unfortunately didn’t get the love it deserves upon its release. You take control of Grayson Hunt a young soldier who is part of a black ops team called Dead Echo, under the command of General Victor Sarrano, the team takes on a mission to assassinate a certain individual, but to their surprise, the target was innocent.

After discovering the General’s corruption, the team fled to a mysterious planet running from Serrano’s soldiers and plotting an act of revenge. In my opinion, the gameplay is one of the strongest aspects of the game, in addition to the traditional shooting mechanics, you have a leach on the other hand where you can grab and smash your enemies onto different objects, this feature allows you to make some crazy, fun, and creative kills. This game was a nice surprise for me and it certainly will be for you.

Far Cry Blood Dragon is a futuristic First Person Shooter, the game is a love letter to the 80’s era featuring cheesy retro cutscenes and hilarious yet awesome dialogue. The game is set in a futuristic apocalyptic era where nuclear wars have destroyed most of the population, you play as Sergent Rex a cyborg soldier who is trying to take down a rogue Colonel named Sloan.

Just like the main game and the previous games on the series, every mission objective can be approached in any way you like, for instance, you can go full stealth and do it without getting detected, or you can do it the loud way and kill every enemy in your way. The game is fun the jokes are witty and creative. I can’t hide how much i love this game, still my favorite Far Cry game to date.

Call Of Duty World At War is a World War First Person Shooter game, World At War marks the fifth game on the Call Of Duty franchise. The story takes place in several locations during the World War II era, the game story is based on several historical battles involving Americans, the Japanese empire, German Nazis, and the soviet union.

World At War generally plays just like its previous predecessors but the art direction was showing more of a realistic view of the brutal WWII era, showing some of the goriest and most brutal scenes on a shooter game to date. Honestly, if you want more of a mature shooter experience World At War is definitely worth a try.

Killzone 2 is a futuristic first-person shooter game, this marks the second main game on the well-known PlayStation exclusive Killzone series. Similar to the previous game, Killzone 2 takes place in the far future, the war flame is burning between two human factions, the Helghast and the Vektans. This game is entirely played from a first-person perspective, additional to that a cover-based system was added, in terms of weapons, a lot of the previous game arsenal is here, and many more are new to the game. Battlefield Bad Company is known for its nonserious narrative and its witty cast of characters. This series focuses on the Bad Company a group of misfit soldiers, who embark on several missions full of explosions, destruction, and blood. What makes this game so different is the destructible environment, each mission you’re into you can bring down stores of buildings if you have enough power. This adds more to the game offering different strategic manoeuver to outcome your enemies as well as a tech demo of what the PS3 is capable of.

Aside from the beautiful single-player experience on both games, the games add more with an in-depth multiplayer mode. Up to 32 players can join in both on teams or against each other offering a diverse range of vehicles to drive and numerous weapons to choose from. The multiplayer features several modes including team-based PVP, conquest, rush, and many more. As a whole, Battlefield Bad Company 1 and 2 are two forgotten fps games on the PS3 that didn’t get the love they deserved, if you’re late for the party I hugely recommend checking out the single-player mdoe for both games.

Resistance 3 is a sci-fi post-apocalyptic first-person shooter, it acts as the third and final installment of the PlayStation 3 exclusive Resistance trilogy. You play as Joseph Capelli, a former soldier who has been discharged from the military due to the events of the previous game, after moving out to a  new city Joseph finds the love of his life and starts a new family. Unfortunately, the peace didn’t last for so long, as the chimera launched a new genocide on the surviving community leading to some new and surprising twists.

The gameplay is not very different from the previous games in the series, with a few additional tweaks here and there, the weapon and combat system are just plain fun, for example, using the secondary fire mode, you can change from a shotgun to a grenade launcher, tagging enemies to shoot them with auto-steering bullets, exploding bullets, freezing bullets and many more… Overall the game is the pinnacle of the series offering both great gameplay and a satisfying ending to the trilogy.

The first modern warfare game was a huge step up in quality offering one of the best multiplayer FPS games at the time, and an unforgivable campaign that is considered a masterpiece by many fans. Departing from the typical World War II settings, the game tells the story of Sergeant Soap and his fellow companions as they take on numerous missions across the world. Taking place in the modern day the game allows players to use various advanced weapons and gadgets such as machine guns, sniper rifles, and even calling airstrikes.

The multiplayer was equally crafted, offering one of the best multiplayer experiences on the PlayStation 3. Several maps were included, numerous customization were available and a large crowd of players could join in at the same time from all over the world. The visuals were also equal to the amazing gameplay offering one of the best graphics at the time, with a solid framerate and some of the best 3D animations. As a whole, COD 4 was and still a cult classic that should be played at least once by any shooter game fan, if you’re collecting for the PS3 I highly recommend picking this up.

Doom 3: BFG Edition expands on the original game concept by including enhanced visuals, improved lighting effects, and an entirely new campaign to play. Not only that, but the game includes two extra games, Doom and Doom II, which are fully playable on the disc. Back to the original game, Doom 3 was a reimagining of the first game that saw a shift away from the fast-paced formula into a full-fledged survival horror first-person shooter.

Set on Mars, the player takes on the role of an enigmatic space marine sent to the Union Aerospace Corporation’s (UAC) Mars Research Facility. Following a series of events, the facility is occupied by demonic beings who kill any human they see. With the task of cleaning the facility now assigned to you, your mission is to defeat these evil monsters and discover the secret behind this invasion.

From the first-person perspective, your goal is to carefully manage your resources while defending yourself against these demons. Iconic weapons such as the shotgun and the BFG 9000 return, providing the ideal balance between hardcore shooters and survival horror games. The game also includes some minor puzzle elements, such as finding key cards to proceed or manipulating the environment to find the next door. While the game was a far cry from the classic Doom that everyone knew and loved, it still provides an incredible standalone experience with revolutionary visuals and a solid narrative.

Crysis was a game that was revolutionary for its time, with stunning visuals and insane physics never seen before. While the PS3 version is not the best way to play the game, it still provides adequate performance and a very good campaign when compared to other games on this list. Set in 2020, the story follows the Rapture Team, a group of special forces soldiers who take on a mission on an island in the South China Sea. Once there, the team encounters a mysterious alien creature, which leads to even more terrifying events.

The ability to use the Nanosuit, which can grant the player the ability to become invisible, superhuman powers, or even a shield against incoming fire, is the main gimmick of the gameplay. The player can strategically switch between these abilities to defeat his opponents and clear outposts either stealthily or with full firepower. The game was also known for its open-ended gameplay, which allowed the player to approach each mission in a unique way. Enemies round out the package, which includes a smart AI and monster encounter with unique abilities. Overall, the PlayStation 3 version is playable, with acceptable performance and a large campaign to explore.

Mafia II is an Open World Third-Person action shooter game, the game is a sequel to the classic 2002’s Mafia game. The game puts you in the shoes of Vitto Scaleeta a young Sicilian-American army veteran, after getting back from the army Vitto finds himself stuck in the mob’s war on the city of  Empire Bay.

The game is completely played from a third-person perspective, the world setting is open-world GTA style you can drive cars around the city and complete story and side missions along the course of the game, just like in the previous game you have a variety of weapons at your service. While the premise of the game seems simple 2K game perfected this game story-wise offering a near-masterpiece in my opinion, if you have never played a Mafia game this is your go-to as it was for me, and as they say better late than never.

This combination creates a very exciting gameplay alongside the stunning visuals and the engaging story, among thieves is very close to perfection as it’s considered by many to be the best game in the series to date. If you missed this title, it’s never too late to play a great game.

You take the role of Sam an American agent working under the government research facility DARPA,  equipped with a futuristic combat suit Sam must engage in a war against the Russians.

The game is mainly a cover-based third-person shooter but the suit’s ability is where things get exciting, using the AR suit is so much fun you can enter a slow-motion mode at will or automatically when taking a lot of damage allowing the player to get out of bad situations and shoot enemies in slow motion, a booster is also there to help you slide on the floor avoiding enemies bullets, moving from a cover to another and shooting at the same time. In conclusion, Vanquish is a brilliant high-octane game offering a hilarious and cheesy story yet a polished combat system.

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marin is a third-person shooter combined with some hack-and-slash elements, the game takes place in the well-known Warhammer universe. You play as Captain Titus a Space Marine captain who takes on a mission to save Graia from the Orc’s invasion.

Alright, the fun part is the gameplay this is a hybrid between TPS and hack n slash, the player can shoot orcs from a distance using a decent arsenal of weapons. You have a variety of melee weapons to take your enemies apart in close-range combat. The game might be a little bit different from your typical cover-based TPS, as the player can’t take cover in this game, instead, the player has an auto-regenerating shield that drains when taking damage. Also, when the player’s health gets low, he can perform an execution on the enemies to regenerate his health. In a word, Warhammer 40,000: Space Marin is a joy to play if you can overcome the somewhat simple storytelling.

James Bond 007: Blood Stone is an amazing third-person shooter game, in addition, there are elements of hand-to-hand combat, stealth, and even car chase sequences. The game offers a new story to tell aside from the movies, you take the role of James Bond as he investigates the disappearance of a scientist who specializes in biological engineering.

The gameplay consists of two parts, an on-foot sequence where you play the game just like any cover-based TPS shooter, sometimes the player will have the chance to engage in hand-to-hand combat, or even infiltrate levels stealth. The second part (my favorite) is the chasing sequences you’ll find yourself chasing bad guys on different vehicles, the chasing part offers a good change from the typical shooting sequences and adds more to the table. In conclusion, Blood Stone might be a licensed game but it has its charm, offering both a new story and great gameplay.

The 40th day put you in the shoes of one of the main protagonist, the game focuses more on the co-op experience as you can play the whole campaign co-op online or split-screen locally. The gameplay is mainly your typical cover-based TPS shooter with some minor tweaks here and there, the player has the ability to upgrade his arsenal of weapons adding more to the table, if you want to enjoy some classic couch co-op experience the 40th-day might be what you are looking for.

Kane & Lynch: Dead Men is a third-person shooter game, it marks the first game on a dilogy presented by Io Interactive. The player takes control of Kane a convicted criminal who is on his way to death row alongside another inmate Lynch, a mysterious organization attacks the truck and kidnaps them.  The gang takes them to a safe place and accuses Kane of stealing their money, therefore, they take his daughter and wife hostage, now Kane and lynch must race with time to bring the money back and save the two hostages.

The gameplay is entirely seen from a third-person perspective, you can use a variety of weapons as Kane has his arsenal of weapons but fear not as you can swap weapons with Lynch for a bigger selection, also you can take cover against walls and perform blind shooting, the game is very basic considering its mechanics but the thrilling story and dark atmosphere make this worth a try by my standards.

Binary Domain is a brilliant third-person shooter developed by the legendary studio behind the Yakuza series. Taking place in the distant future where AI and robots have become an integral part of the daily lives of humans, you take on the role of Dan Marshall an international agent who investigates a series of mysterious events including self-aware robots known as the Hollow Children.

To its core, the game is a cover-based shooter in which you lead your team through each mission, taking cover and shooting at any threats. Shotguns, automatic rifles, sniper rifles, and other common weapons are available. The game features a robust customization system that allows you to upgrade and customize your weapons as you see fit.

Furthermore, the game allows the player to fully order his team with comprehensive directives such as locations, firing, hold fire, cover, and many more. The visuals are equally appealing, with an incredible level design reminiscent of futuristic settings and a great character design that delivers a realistic look of each character’s individuality.

The player takes control of a battleship, at the first mission you will experience the fully upgraded ship but after being defeated by the main villain of the game, you have to start from scratch.

To be honest, the game is entirely based on grinding as your ship can be upgraded with coins collected from destroyed enemies, upgrades vary from strengthing your main canon, wing cannons, a magnet to collect the coins easier, and many more. In conclusion, this game is a joy to play if want a pickup and play game, on the bus or on lunch break this game doesn’t disappoint.

Under Defeat is a Japanese Arcade Shmup, the game originally came out on arcades and then ported to the Dreamcast and finally ported in HD for modern consoles. The game takes place in an alternate World War II setting, you control German pilots fighting against an English-speaking nation called The Union.

The game is a vertical shooter Shmup very similar to your typical vertical shooter games, a slight tweak is the ability to move sideways allowing a wider range when shooting, you can use 2 different attack forms, the primary weapon the machine gun, and the defensive weapon, the bomb. The HD version here on the PlayStation 3 has a few additional contents aside from the HD texture, a new gameplay mode is available where the aspect ratio is stretched to 16:9, and also a new optional twin-stick control mode.

Steredenn is an indie Shoot ’em Up Roguelike game, the game combines elements of old-school arcade shooter and 8-bit 2D art style with roguelike and almost Soul-like difficulty.

At the beginning of each playthrough, you have the choice to choose between five types of ships each with its advantage, each ship can hold up to two weapons with the option to change your arsenal throughout the game. The whole premise of the game is to survive as long as you can, after beating several enemy ships you get a boss confrontation if you beat him you will have a random upgrade, and so on, getting your ship destroyed means starting all over again, yes it is punishing but never unfair.

Sine Mora is an exciting Side-Scrolling  Bullet Hell shooter with some surprisingly great ideas. The story features two different plots at two different timelines, the first story involves a father on a quest to take revenge on the nation that murdered his beloved son, and the second story revolves around the last survivor of an ancient tribe seeking revenge on the empire that took everything from his people.

Aside from the typical gameplay mechanics, the game gives you the ability to slow down time allowing a more friendly and manageable difficulty for newcomers, but fear not as the difficulty can be tweaked for hardcore gamers to spice things up. In addition to the classic gameplay and crisp beautiful graphics, the player can upgrade his arsenal of weapons, and to my surprise, there is no health bar, the game forces you to finish each level on a specific time limit, and taking damage will shorten the time you have and can even cost you your level progress. Overall this game is a brilliant Shooter, combining some amazing ideas, and pleasing both casual and hardcore gamers.

Raiden IV is a Japanese vertical Shoot ’em Up game, the game marks the fourth game in the well-known Raiden classic series of Shmup games. The plot is nothing new as the crystals are back again to endanger humanity’s existence, you take on your fighting jet to stop them once and for all.

The gameplay is almost similar to the previous game, you control your jet around the screen blowing the enemies’ ships, and after destroying them they can drop collectibles varying from weapon upgrades to screen-clearing bombs. The game is very rewarding if you play it in a very reserved manner, every move counts and just bear in mind that moving wildly around the screen will certainly get you wrecked. On the whole, Raiden IV doesn’t disappoint at all offering both a classic feel and a fresh modern look.
