Fairies are very similar to pets in Black Desert Online because they also play an extremely essential role, as they are able to provide buffs to your whole family of characters that are in no way replaceable. Obtaining a fairy with a high level and very useful skills is a long and money-wasting process, and it won’t even spare your wallet.
This guide aims to help alleviate some pain though, as we will go through anything you need to know about BDO fairies, what to look out for from early on, and how to get the best results with the least waste of resources and time!
Fairies can be very useful during your adventures because your fairy may have important skills like auto-potion function, higher weight penalty reduction, or instant resurrection.
Unlike pets, you can only have one fairy at the same time, but she will physically follow, talk to you, and support you everywhere. You probably won’t find the perfect fairy at first, but luckily you have the option to replace your existing fairy with another at any time.
If you’re not happy with her abilities, you can get items from the Pearl Shop that can change your fairy’s skills.
What is Laila’s Petal?
– Laila’s Petal is an essential item because you can change them into random fairies through a quest (I will explain this in the ‘How to get a new fairy’ chapter). As a novice player, do not delete them in any way. These can be obtained as a rare drop from killing monsters, fishing, or gathering. Keep collecting them, and read our ‘How to get a new fairy’ chapter to find out how you can turn them into fairies, and other valuable items.
What is Sweet Honey Wine?
– Sweet Honey Wine is a kind of fuel as it can upgrade your fairy to higher levels. You can buy this wine from the Central Market, or you can cook it from the following ingredients: x2 Top-Quality Cooking Honey, x4 Full-bodied Exotic Wine, x10 Sugar, and x2 Fruit.
What is Ornette’s Dark Honey Wine?
– Ornette’s Dark Honey Wine is the P2W version of Sweet Honey Wine. It serves the same purpose, but can only be obtained in the Pearl Shop.
What is Special Honey Jar and Unstable Crevice?
– Special Honey Jar is a special item that can place on the Unstable Crevice you find outside of Kamasylve Temple. An Unstable Crevice is a red object that blinks every 3 to 5 seconds. They will randomly spawn in areas of Balenos, Serendia, Calpheon, and Kamasylvia. If you interact with them by placing a Special Honey Jar here, you will obtain Laila’s Petal or a fairy as a reward. Btw, it’s also a way to get more fairies.
Special Honey Jar’s Alchemy Ingredients: Top-Quality Cooking Honey x2 + Fruit of Abundance x5 + Essence of Liquor x1 + Purified Water x2:
What is Fairy Powder?
– Fairy Powder can be rarely obtained through gathering. Currently has no function, you can sell it to an NPC.
The Fairy Information window can be opened if you have a registered fairy. This window can be opened by clicking the butterfly icon at the top left corner of your screen. If you can’t see this line of icons, go to the settings, the Edit UI option, and turn on the Mount section of the top left of your screen. And note that the feature is only available if you already have a registered fairy. As you can see in the image above, in this window you will find all the interactions that are related to our fairy: here you can see its skills or choose from different options that you want to perform.
There are 4 tiers of fairies and each tier can have a different amount of levels and skills. The Gift (Luck +1) is a base skill, this is what every fairy has as a starting skill. They learn a random new skill in every 10 levels. Getting the greatest fairy from RNG boxes is quite a challenge.
Gift: Luck +1
Each ability can be obtained at levels 1 through 5. You can see in the table below what level of abilities each tier can acquire, and it can also be seen that only tier 4 fairies can acquire the highest level abilities:

What is the best skill compilation?
Can I change my fairy’s skills? – Yes, but you can only do this using the P2W method. At the Pearl Shop (F3, Travel Aid section) you can purchase an item called Theiah’s Orb. This item will replace the skill you select randomly with another. However, for one change, you need as many pieces from this item as the abilities the fairy has (has 1 skill: 1 orb, has 2 skills: 2 orbs, and so on).
There are 5 different fairy personalities in the game:
The personality you get is shown in your fairy’s name and is completely separate from the tiers. Personalities are affecting the color of the Morning Star skill, and the fairy’s voice line, but there are no differences in appearances. The fairies speak to you faithfully to their personality, except for Serene Laila because she doesn’t speak. The changes in Morning Star skill are as follows: Meticulous’s glow is green, Joyful’s glow is orange, Aloof’s glow is blue, Prim’s glow is pink, and Serene’s glow is yellow.
If you want to change the look of your fairy, you’ll need to buy a Fairy Appearance Change coupon from the Pearl Shop, but these are usually only available for a limited time, so it won’t be easy to get. We currently know two of these: the Tick-Tock Fairy which also gives you an additional Skill EXP +10%, and the Puck Fairy, from the Berserk event.
If you have never had a fairy, you must embark on a quest to obtain a fairy. After level 52, you can take the quest ‘Fairy Queen Theiah’ from your Black Spirit (at the suggestions tab). The prerequisite for this mission is to complete the [Boss] Witch-Hunting quest.
This quest leads you to Kamasylvia temple in Mediah, where you should talk to Fairy Queen Theiah. A quest chain will be started, hand over x2 Cooking Honey, use Special Honey Jar on the Unstable Crevice, which is located in the back of NPC Theiah, talk to Theiah again, and then hand Laila’s Petal to Theiah.
At the end of the line, you will get a Sealed Fairy Wings. This is an RNG box, which gives you a random tier of fairy. Now you can register your first fairy, and summon her.
Growth: You can manage your fairy’s growth at the Fairy Information window(if you can’t find it, take a look at the picture above). This is only possible if the fairy has not yet reached the maximum level. You can level up your fairy by feeding her with gear, Black Spirit’s Claw, or Sweet Honey Wine. Higher-grade gear will give more exp, but the most efficient gear (in terms of exp/money ratio) is Blue gear. I recommend you to look around for blue gear at the Central Market and make the best decision, but for example, the Lemoria or Akum is usually a good choice. However, I would like to draw your attention to the fact that only the higher-level fairies are worth leveling up, it is not worth wasting gear on lower-tier ones.
Blazing Nouver/Kutum – 375.000 EXP
Boss Armors – 47.500 EXP
Ultimate Awakening Weapons (boss weapons) –13.000 EXP
Ornette’s Dark Honey Wine – 13.000 EXP
Lemoria armor – 3.300 EXP
Liverto/Blue Weapons – 3.000 EXP
Ultimate armor/weapoons – 500-1.700 EXP
Black Spirit’s Claw – 1.500 EXP
Blue/green armor/weapons 25-500 EXP
Rebirth: There are two kinds of rebirths that can be done on fairies: the Persona Reset or the Growth Reset. The Growth reset will reset all of the fairy’s skills and levels back to 1. You can only do this if your fairy is at least level 10 or above, and you will need a Fairy Queen’s Might for the process (this is a Pearl item). The Persona Reset will change the personality of the fairy, i.e. her voice and her Morning Star skill lantern color will be change, you also need a Fairy Queen’s Might for this process.
Sprouting: Once your fairy has reached the maximum level, you have the opportunity (but only once!) to raise her into a higher tier level. The success rate will be different depending on how many materials you are using, and the rate can go up to 100%. The materials that can be used are Sweet Honey Wine or Ornette’s Dark Honey Wine, but only one type at a time. If the upgrade failed, you can rebirth your fairy and level it again to try the upgrade again. When you sprouting a Tier 3 fairy, you will need x400 Sweet Honey Wine OR x25 Ornette’s Dark Honey Wine for the maximum success rate.
Release: Your fairy will be released and you will receive a proportional amount of Fairy Powder to your Fair’s luminosity and growth level.
Summon/Unsummon: You can summon or unsummon your fairy by clicking this button. There are interactions that can be can only be done when your fairy is summoned or unsummoned. However, the abilities of your fairy can only be used if the fairy is summoned
Hiding your fairy: If you want to enjoy the benefits of your fairy but don’t want to display it, you can set this in your settings. Go ESC -> Settings -> General Settings -> Show/Hide, and at the Fairy part, select the Hide Fairy option.
Ornette’s Dark Honey Wine
Theiah’s Orb
Fairy Queen’s Might
Fairy Appearance Coupons
If you are not happy with your current fairy, you can look for a better one instead. However, to apply a new fairy, you must release the previous one. There are 2 ways to obtain new fairies:
1. [Lv. 50] [Repeat] Mysterious Companion
This is a repeatable quest from Theiah located at Kamasylva Temple in Mediah. You must give her 2 Laila’s Petals and she will give you a Sealed Fairy Wing, which is an RNG box that contains random tiers of fairies. The quest can be repeated countless times.
Laila’s Petal is obtainable from killing monsters, fishing, or gathering. Newly available from Black Spirit’s Adventure board (ESC, Reward, Black Spirit’s Adventure) or also can be obtainable by Unstable Crevices.
2. Searching Unstable Crevices
An Unstable Crevice is a red object that blinks. They will randomly spawn in areas of Balenos, Serendia, Calpheon, and Kamasylvia. If you interact with them by placing a Special Honey Jar here, you will obtain Laila’s Petal or a fairy as a reward.
Special Honey Jar’s Alchemy Ingredients: Top-Quality Cooking Honey x2 + Fruit of Abundance x5 + Essence of Liquor x1 + Purified Water x2:
What can I do with fairies I don’t want to use?

hi! i accidentally released my fairy and I dont grind anymore because of work. Is there any way to get petals or faies except for the quest? because i am already done with it. Thanks
Hi Mark,
“Laila’s Petal is obtainable from killing monsters, fishing, or gathering. Newly available from Black Spirit’s Adventure board (ESC, Reward, Black Spirit’s Adventure) or also can be obtainable by Unstable Crevices.” But in addition to these, they sometimes get into Attendance Reward too (it still has x5 Petal in it). Plus, there is now an event for New/Returning players where Laila’s Petal x10 is available (but only for New / Returning players, it’s a Playtime Challenge). And you can now buy 1 Petal for 50 loyalties on EU.
Complete fairies cannot be obtained except through Laila’s Petals.
I think if you don’t have time now, it will soon fall out of somewhere and it will be in your possession again.
HF & Enjoy the game!
AFK fishing at places like Lake Flondor near Grana is a great spot to gain Petals.
Make a L49 Shai and make her your fishing toon.
That’s my fishing spot too ?
Is it better to change skills at lvl 10 or just full level the Fairy first?
I think if you want to go straight to perfect/almost perfect P2W fairy, it is wiser to use Theiah’s Orbs per 10 level. Of course it all depends on your RNG, but if you are willing to sacrifice a good many pearls for your fairy, then maybe you can come out cheaper with this method. (Sometimes you can also buy Theiah Orb for Loyalties, don’t miss it)
imo if you know you only want 1 or 2 or 3 skills, reroll at each 10 levels until you get a desired skill then move on to next 10 levelups and reroll until you get another, price increases as you level.
Thanks again for a great guide. I did not know you could sprout t3 for a chance at t4
Glad it was helpful to you! 🙂 For a long time I didn’t know either, and for a very long time (2 years XD) I just opened the boxes to get a tier4 sooner or later. well, I didn’t get it .. but I finally managed to pull it out of a T3. ^-^
