Using PS4 / PS5 Touchpad with Brook's Universal Fighting Board

Figuring out how to use the PS4 / PS5's touchpad with your Brook UFB can be a pain, so we've put together this short guide!

I‘ve been using Brook’s UFB for ages now, and its flexibility has been unmatched! The first time I ever encountered an issue, is with SNK’s PS2 emulations on PS4! For no reason at all, they require you to use the Touchpad’s left & right areas, as the Select & Start buttons respectively, while – you guessed it – the actual Start button serves no function at all in these games, and there’s absolutely no way to remap it, while you can remap pretty much every other button.

Your only chance here, is to use the controller in order to press the goddamn Start, so good luck swapping to your controller in the Continue screen within 9 seconds, then swapping back again before your opponent is already on top of you.

SNK at it again right!

Fortunately, Brook always has our backs, and you can emulate the left & right areas of the touchpad – as long as you have a Touchpad (TP) button connected to your UFB.

Then, all you have to do is:

  • Touchpad Left Click – Hold down the left direction, and then press the touchpad button.
  • Touchpad Center Click – Simply press the touchpad button.
  • Touchpad Right Click – Hold down the right direction, and then press the touchpad button.

That’s all there is to it, I wish someone else had made this mini-guide, in order to save me 2 hours of frustrated google searches.

Brook did decide to actually document this functionality as well, I also wish that was there when I needed it:

Keep in mind that in order to use the UFB with PS5 games on PS5, you will need the UFB-UP5 mini-board addon (you can still play PS4 games on PS5 without it).

An in-progress list of SNK fighting games that require the use of the Touchpad’s right area as the Start button:
