You might realize that in Genshin Impact, there is a very large amount of content for you to farm available really early. As a new player, you might be overwhelmed with knowing what to unlock and what to spend your limited and precious Original Resin on. This guide will provide you with tips surrounding most resin related farming activities and also help you avoid common pitfalls.

Table of Contents

Resin Types & How to Use Resin

Also known as simply ‘Resin’ by the majority of the community, Original Resin is the basic Energy system that limits how many rewards you can claim every day. The max Resin a player can have at any time is currently 160, and is worth noting that Resin can overflow via the usage of Fragile or Transient Resin Items.

Original Resin is used to claim challenge rewards from Ley Line Blossoms, Petrified Trees (Domains), and Trounce Blossoms (Bosses), as well as Event-exclusive challenges.

If you wish to reach max efficiency with your Resin then you need to spend it before it reaches 160 to avoid halting its regeneration, therefore if you wish to log in daily then it is advised you spend or Condense it for later use.

With current Cap being 160 and with Resin recharging at one point every 8 minutes, it will take about 21 hours and 20 minutes for a full Resin Bar.

Resin Costs

Typical Resin costs:

  • Domains/Ley Line Blossoms  (20 Resin)
    • Can be claimed at any time, with no limit.
  • Overworld Bosses (40 Resin)
    • Can be claimed after the boss is defeated, with no limit.
  • Trounce Domains (ex. Dvalin) (30 Resin / 60 Resin)
    • Can only be claimed once a week, you can only do 3 Separate Bosses before the cost goes up to 60 Resin.

Condensed Resin (AR 25)

One of the most important Resin related items in the game, Condensed Resin serves as a time-saving tool and is only used in Domains and Ley Line Blossoms, and you will gain double the rewards from one use.

While the recipe requires the player to spend 40 Resin and 1 Crystal Core in any Alchemy Table, it will be your time saving grace – both when wanting to clear domains fast and when needing to drain Resin so you don’t hit your Resin cap, so don’t forget to always condense your Resin!

The recipe for condensed Resin will be unlocked as soon as you reach Reputation Lv. 3 in Liyue.

Fragile Resin

Often a common reward, Fragile Resin is an item that grants the player 60 Resin upon usage.

While its easy to get and to use, it is recommended for players bellow AR 45 to stockpile Fragile Resin until you are able to farm 5* artifacts, or if you need it in a pinch to claim rewards from a Weekly Boss.

The functionally identical Transient Resin Item on the other hand should be used weekly, as it will expire within a week of its purchase and therefore cannot be stockpiled.

Primogem Resin Refill

A very easy mistake to make when starting out is to spend 50 of your hard earned Primogems to get more Resin. This however should be avoided at all costs – it is simply unnecessary as long as you make good usage of your Resin, and those Primogems can be put into better use.

Best Ways to Spend Resin

Ley Line Outcrops (AR 12)

These Outcrops pop up at AR 8 and AR 12, but it’s a common pitfall to farm them the moment they are available and lose a lot of efficiency.

Mora and character EXP will be given to you from quests in the early game, therefore it only becomes worthwhile to farm Ley Lines regularly once your World Level is 4+, or AR 35. At that point you will gain 44.000 Mora or plenty of both Adventurer’s Experience and Hero’s Wit per 20 Resin, for instance.

The farming efficiency of ley lines only goes up along with your World Level, so its worthwhile focusing on leveling up before touching them – since you will claim a lot of extra Fragile Resin to use from In-Game rewards.

The Enemies in Ley Line Challenges are pretty easy to defeat in all regions and their levels scale with your World Level, with the easiest being in Mondstat.

Talent Level Up Materials (AR 27)

Talent materials are used for leveling up your Character’s Talents. Each region in the game right now has 3 different talent materials that can be used for leveling up characters’ Talents.

Each character usually uses materials from the city they are from. Kaeya, one of the characters you gain for free through progressing through the tutorial for example, uses Teachings of Ballad that can only be obtained through the Mondstat Talent Domain (Forsaken Rift).

It’s very important to unlock these domains and farm them as soon as you have access to them to increase your damage and have an easier time with later content, as well as make your overall party more powerful. While farming, prefer the hardest difficulty of the domain you can beat, as the farming efficiency goes up by difficulty.

These talent books are split in 3 tiers, each tier represented by the numbers of stars on the item. Three of the same tier of material can be combined to one of the next tier.

If you are having trouble figuring out what Character Talent you need to focus on, your safest bet is to click on the “Talent Reference” Button that appears once you click on any of your character’s Talents.

Weapon Ascension Materials (AR 16)

One of the easiest ways to get your characters stronger would be to level up their weapons, to do so you will need Weapon Ascension materials. These, once again, differ from major region to major region, with each having 3 different Materials.

Once you find the suitable weapon for your character, you can farm its required material to ascend it and make it stronger. In doing so, its Base Attack and its Secondary Stat will rise, both crucial for your character’s development.

While farming, prefer the hardest difficulty of the domain you can beat, as the farming efficiency goes up by difficulty.

Weapon Ascension Materials are split in 4 tiers, each tier represented by the numbers of stars on the item. Three of the same tier of material can be combined to one of the next tier.

It is important to note that the “worth” of leveling and ascending a weapon differs wildly from case to case. You should never use materials to level 2* weapons, and very rarely 3* weapons – Notable exceptions being your early game weapons, before you can get enough pulls from the Gacha System or Craft to get 4* ones.

Artifact Domains (AR 22)

Continuing your farming adventure will require for you to grind on artifacts for your teams, with several domains and over 20+ different sets, it can be overwhelming to know when to start. One important tip is to only start farming on AR 35 – for 4 Star quality artifacts and really push on them on AR 45 where you can get 5 Star artifacts.

Through these Domains, you will gain a lot of Artifacts that range from useable to fodder, what you should prioritize leveling up should be artifacts of higher Stars that have the highest number of beneficial Sub-Stats, the additional Stats besides the artifact’s Main Stat.

Teapot (AR 28) – Trust Rank And Realm Currency

The Serenitea pot, the main housing system in the game, is a great investment for any player looking to get easy materials through little work, after some initial setup! While this guide wont go into too much detail over the system in its entirety, it will underline the basics of spending Realm Currency to minimize how much resin you will have to spend on farming these materials.

Over time and through each Trust Rank, your teapot will generate Realm Currency that can be exchanged for a lot of goodies in Tubby’s Shop.

Overall notable Purchases you can make weekly, besides foliage and blueprints:

  • Transient Resin (1200 Coins – Max 1)
    • Must buy once weekly, as its great to use to avoid spending precious Fragile Resin.
  • Hero’s Wit (120 Coins – Max 20)
    • Common character leveling material, saves you the Resin of farming Ley Lines.
  • Mystic Enhancement Ore (60 Coins – Max 40)
    • Common weapon leveling material, buy only with excess coins.
  • Sanctifying Essence/Unction (360/90 Coins – Max 5/20)
    • Artifact EXP material, buy only with excess coins.
  • Several kinds of seeds (5 Coins – Max 5)
    • Can be planted and grown in your teapot. Require no maintenance besides gathering them once grown.
