Neverwinter features 14 distinct races, and fortunately, none of them are gender-locked. Unfortunately though, 5 of them are paylocked, so you will need to spend money to gain access to them. There are still 9 races any new player can access, and trust me they are the ones that make the most sense in Neverwinter’s lore!

As always, your choice of race will primarily affect your character’s appearance, but each one also offers a few different racial abilities, buffing up different stats, or adding some unique racial attributes.

I hope that this list of Neverwinter races will help you make the final choice, as all the lore and racial abilities are listed, along with how the default Male / Female models look.

Human

Human, Neverwinter Race

Human Lore: Of all the civilized races, humans are the most adaptable and diverse. Human settlements can be found almost anywhere, and human morals, customs, and interests vary greatly.

 

Human Racial Abilities

 

Versatile Defense
You gain a bonus 250 points to all of your ratings (Offense and Defensive stats).

 

Ability Scores
+3 to Any Ability Score.

Half-Orc

Half-Orc, Neverwinter Race

Half-Orc Lore: Half-orcs combine the best qualities of humans and orcs, though some would argue that the good qualities of orcs are few and hard to find. From their orc blood, half-orcs inherit great physical strength and toughness. They are fierce warriors, fleet of foot as they charge into battle.

Furious Assault

Your Critical Severity is 5% higher than that of other races, causing you to deal more damage when you deliver a Critical Strike.

 

Ability Scores

Grants you +2 Dexterity, and either +2 Constitution or +2 Strength.

 

Swift Charge

You gain a 10% bonus to Movement Speed for 3 seconds when you enter combat. This effect can only occur once every 20 seconds.

Wood Elf

Wood Elf, Neverwinter Race

Wood Elf Lore: Wild and free, wood elves guard their forested lands using stealth and deadly arrows from the trees. They build their home in close harmony with the forest, so perfectly joined that travelers often fail to notice that they have entered a wood elf community until it is too late.

Elven Accuracy

You gain a bonus 1500 Critical Strike.

 

Ability Scores

Grants you +2 Dexterity, and either +2 Intelligence or +2 Wisdom.

 

Wild Step

You have a 10% resistance to effects that Slow your movement.

Sun Elf

Sun Elf, Neverwinter Race

Sun Elf Lore: The sun elves have lived apart from the events of the world for thousands of years. They mimic the aloof nature of their society in their personal actions as well. They are slow to smiler, quick to disparage, and always ready to demonstrate their superior knowledge and skill.

 

Sun Elf Racial Abilities

 

Inner Calm

Your inner peace and serenity allow you to focus more clearly on the task at hand. Your Action Point Gain is 2% higher than that of other races.

 

Ability Scores

Grants you +2 Intelligence, and either +2 Dexterity or +2 Charisma.

 

Sun Elf Grace

Your exemplary grace increases your resistance to Control effects by 10%.

Dwarf

Dwarf, Neverwinter Race

Dwarf Lore: The glory of the ancient dwarven kingdoms lies far in the past, yet these stout champions remain vigilant against the myriad foes arrayed against them. Claiming that they stepped fully formed from the heart of the world, dwarves have much in common with the stone and steel they respect.

Stand Your Ground

You have 20% increased resistance effects that Knock and Push you.

 

Ability Scores

Grants you +2 Constitution, and either +2 Strength or +2 Wisdom.

 

Cast-Iron

You gain a bonus 2000 Defense.

Halfling

Halfling, Neverwinter Race

Halfling Lore: Halflings are a small race known for their resourcefulness, quick wits, and steady nerves. They are a nomadic folk who roam waterways and marshlands. No people travel farther or see more of what happens in the world than halflings.

Nimble Reaction

You gain a bonus 1500 Deflect.

 

Ability Scores

Grants you +2 Dexterity, and either +2 Charisma or +2 Constitution.

 

Bold

Your fearless nature increases your resistance to Control effects by 10%.

Half-Elf

Half-Elf, Neverwinter Race

Half-Elf Lore: Descended from elves and humans, half-elves are a vital race in which the best features of elves and humans often appear.

 

Half-Elf Racial Abilities

 

Dilettante

Grants +1 Ability Score. This bonus is automatically determined by your class.

 

Ability Scores

Grants you +2 Constitution, and either +2 Charisma or +2 Wisdom.

 

Knack for Success

Your Critical Severity, and Gold Bonus are each 1% higher than that of other races.

Tiefling

Tiefling, Neverwinter Race

Tiefling Lore: Plagued by a dark and sinister heritage, tieflings walk through the shadows of their race’s past, savoring the darkness or trying to escape it. Tieflings are scattered through Faerûn, littered geographically in a reminder of distant times when devils and demons exerted an active influence over the lands.

 

Tiefling Racial Abilities

 

Bloodhunt

You deal an additional 5% damage to targets below half health.

 

Ability Scores

Grants you +2 Charisma, and either +2 Constitution or +2 Intelligence.

 

Infernal Wrath

When you receive damage, you have a 10% chance to apply Infernal Wrath to your attacker for 5 seconds. This effect reduces the damage of the target’s attacks by 2.5%.

Drow

Drow, Neverwinter Race

Drow Lore: Drow are a decadent race of dark elves whose beauty and sophistication fail to mask hearts all too often stained by evil. The vast majority of dark elves base their behavior and attitudes on the worship of the chaotic evil goddess Lolth, also known as the Spider Queen.

 

Drow society is organized into houses. The heads of the most powerful houses occupy leadership positions in the various cities of the Underdark, the subterranean realm beneath Faerûn that the dark elves call home.

 

Drow Racial Abilities

 

Darkfire

When attacking a foe, you have a 5% chance to apply Darkfire for 4 seconds. This effect reduces the target’s Defense by 2000.

 

Ability Scores

Grants you +2 Dexterity, and either +2 Charisma or +2 Wisdom.

 

Trance

You have increased Hit Point regeneration out of combat.

Dragonborn

Dragonborn, Neverwinter Race

Dragonborn Lore: Born to fight, dragonborn are a race of wandering mercenaries, soldiers, and adveturers. Long ago, their empire contended for worldwide dominion, but now only a few rootless clans of these honorable warriors remain to pass on their legends of ancient glory.

Draconic Heritage

You receive 5% more healing from all spells and abilities.

 

Ability Scores

Grants you +2 to any two stats.

 

Dragonborn Fury

You gain a bonus 1500 Critical Strike and 3% increased damage.

Metallic Ancestry Dragonborn

Metalic Ancestry Dragonborn, Neverwinter Race

Metallic Ancestry Dragonborn Lore: Metallic ancestry dragonborn are the epomynously named descendants of the metallic dragons. Although free to choose their own path, they often embody the values of their ancestors: honor, justice and a respect for life.

Metallic Ancestry

You receive 3% more healing from all spells and abilities. Your Maximum Hit Points total is 3% higher than that of other races.

 

Ability Scores

Grants you +2 to any two stats.

 

Dragonborn Fury

You gain a bonus 1500 Critical Strike and 3% increased damage.

Gith

Gith, Neverwinter Race

Gith Lore: After centuries of enslavement and abuse at the hands of the mind flayers, the gith race has split into two factions: the monastic githzerai and the warlike githyanki. Civil war is a constant between the githzerai and githyanki, but several renegade groups have allied to hunt their former masters, and many travel to Faerûn to seek salvation for their race.

Ability Scores

Grants you +2 Dexterity, and either +2 Strength or +2 Intelligence.

 

Gith Endurance

Your heightened endurance allows you to regenerate stamina 3% faster.

 

Gith Advantage

Your decades of war have given you an edge in combat granting you 5000 Combat Advantage.

Moon Elf

Moon Elf, Neverwinter Race

Moon Elf Lore: Moon elves revel in travel and exploration. Open to new experiences and honest by nature, moon elves are often seen as worthy companions by the people they meet in their travels.

Wanderlust

You cannot stay in one place long and are always roaming and seeking new oddities. Your Action Point Gain and Stamina Gain are each 1% higher than that of other races.

 

Ability Scores

Grants you +2 Intelligence, and either +2 Dexterity or +2 Charisma.

 

Moon Elf Resilience

Your elven resilience increases your resistance to Control effects by 10%.

Menzoberranzan Renegade

Menzoberranzan Renegade, Neverwinter Race

Menzoberranzan Renegade Lore: Drow from the city of Menzoberranzan are raised in a world of lies and treachery. The noble houses of these dark elves are in constant conflict, vying for power and the favor of their evil goddess, Lolth the Spider Queen.

 

Sometimes a drow tires of the constant strife. Others see through the corrupt dogma of the Way of Lolth and seek a better way. There is no place within Menzoberranzan society for such drow and when discovered they are branded as renegades, outcast from their house, and exiled from the city.

Faerie Fire

When attacking a foe, you have a 5% chance to apply Faerie Fire for 4 seconds. This effect reduces the target’s Defense by 1500 and the damage of their attacks by 2.5%.

 

Ability Scores

Grants you +2 Dexterity, and either +2 Charisma or +2 Wisdom.

 

Trance

You have increased Hit Point regeneration out of combat.
