Thieving is a P2P skill which allows you to earn money, unlock doors and disable traps. Earning money through thieving can be achieved by pickpocketing NPCs or by stealing from stalls and chests. Some quests require a specific Thieving level, hence training is the key for your quests progress. You will also need it at a high level in raids to complete the Thieving room much faster.

Training this skill is easy and not complicated at all, but most of its training methods are very click-intensive and can’t be done while being fully AFK. Earning money through Thieving is not the best idea, but it is still possible to gain a decent amount of Gold. Upon reaching level 99 Thieving, you will receive the Thieving cape which gives you a 10% success chance when you attempt to Pickpocket the NPCs.

This article will include the fastest methods to train your Thieving straight to level 99 ignoring the other slow or money-making methods. Keep in mind that training your Thieving level will not cost you that much, and most likely will cost nothing at all.

Make sure to check out all 23 OSRS skills in our relevant guide.

Thieving items

There are certain items that should be used while training your Thieving level. Some of them are used to speed up the training process. The process is generally boring, but these items should help to make it less painful.?

Ardougne Cloak

Ability: gives 10% success chance while pickpocketing (In Ardougne city only)

How to get it: by completing Ardougne Medium Diary. (Complete the Hard Diary to be able to use it outside Ardougne).

Rogue’s Gear

This item won’t speed up the training process at all, but it helps to gain more rewards when you pickpocket the NPCs.

Ability: full gear gives a 100% double loot chance when you attempt to Pickpocket.

How to get it: from Rogue’s Den as a reward.

Dodgy Necklace

Ability: gives 25% chance of not getting stunned upon failing to pickpocket (Each Necklace gives 10 chances only).

Where to get it: From the Grand Exchange.

Gloves of Silence

Ability: Gives 5% success chance while pickpocketing (everywhere in OSRS but it doesn’t stack with the bonus of the Ardougne Cloak)

Where to get it: From the Grand Exchange.

Note: This item will be useless after completing the Ardougne Hard Diary.

Level 1-5

Pickpocketing NPCs is your fastest way to reach level 5 Thieving. These NPCs can be found almost everywhere on the map, but the best spot is in the Lumbridge area. Pickpocketing them can be done easily by disabling the Attack option from the settings to prevent attacking them.

You will receive a coin pouch each time you successfully pickpocket one of them, these pouches can be stacked up to 28. Clicking on the coin pouches will convert them directly to Gold coins in your inventory. This method gives you around 6K XP per hour if done correctly.

Level 5-20

Reaching level 20 Thieving can be done easily by stealing from the Cake Stalls. These Cake Stalls are located in East Ardougne and guards may attack you while attempting to steal the cakes. You should run away from the market area once the guards attack you, then go back to steal again. Each Cake stolen gives you 16 XP and you get around 13K XP per hour. You should always drop the Cakes once you have a full inventory.

Level 20-25

The best method to reach level 25 Thieving is by stealing from the Silk Stalls which are located in East Ardougne. These Stalls can be found near the Cake Stalls and guards may attack you while attempting to steal. Stealing from the Silk Stalls gives you around 15K XP per hour.

Level 25-31

The best way to reach level 31 Thieving is by stealing from the Hosidius Fruit Stalls. These Stalls are located in the Hosidius House and require 15% favor to be able to steal from them. You should drop all the fruits from your inventory to get the fastest XP per hour. This method gives you nearly 33K XP per hour.

The best Fruit Stall is the one that can be found East of Hosidius, as it has no dogs around it.

Level 31-60

The fastest way to reach level 60 Thieving is by using the Pyramid Plunder minigame. This minigame is located in Sophanem City. To get there, you can either use the Pharaoh’s Sceptre Teleport or the Carpet Teleport.

To start the minigame, you should find the Guardian mummy inside the pyramid. Finding it is not that hard, any of the four entrances will lead you there.

The Minigame requires level 21 Thieving and it gives you access to additional room every 10 Thieving levels. There’s a limited time for you to be inside the pyramid, which means you should get the most Thieving XP possible, before getting kicked out. Getting the best XP out of the allowed rooms can be done by stealing only from the last 2 rooms. Note that this minigame is dangerous and there are many traps inside, so try to not bring any important item inside (bring weight-reducing items and Anti-poison potions if possible).

Stealing can be done by searching the Urns inside the pyramid and you should drop all the stone seals you get from your inventory, without banking them, to get the fastest XP per hour. This method gives you around 50K XP per hour.

Level 60-99

The best and fastest way to level 99 Thieving is by pickpocketing Ardougne Knights. By using the Ardougne Cloak 2 and the Dodgy Necklace, you can speed up the training. You should also hide the Attack option from the settings to be able to just spam the left-click to pickpocket. Bringing some food is helpful, as you will suffer damage if you fail to pickpocket the Knights.

To do this efficiently, you will have to hob to world 378 where everyone will be pickpocketing Ardougne Knights inside a house. This house can be found north of East Ardougne (actually it works for all the houses but this is the most usual). The point is to trap the Knight inside the house so you can simply just spam pickpocketing him. You can also trap the Knight by yourself if you wanna do it solo in a specific world.

This method rewards you with almost 120K XP per hour, and it can scale up to 250K, depending on how many times you get stunned. Note that you will never get stunned again after reaching level 95 Thieving, which makes the rest of the grind to level 99 easy to achieve.

Overall

All of the mentioned training methods are click-intensive and if done correctly, you will be able to reach level 99 faster than using any other ways. There are some quests can be completed at the early levels to reach level 20 thieving or beyond. Doing these quests can take a longer time than actually using one of the early levels methods. Depending on how you do it, you may find completing these quests easy and fast, but we intended to introduce the direct thieving methods only.
