While visiting snowy areas in Tears of the Kingdom is quite mesmerizing and soothing, new players will find some difficulty since the cold weather can cost you tons of food with a frequently decreasing health bar. The cold weather can be dealt with in a lot of ways depending on how far you’re in the game, from warm food to unique weapons. We’ve put up a comprehensive guide on how to combat the cold in Tears of the Kingdom.

Cooking Warming Food

Cooking spicy or warm food is the most effective way to roam snowy areas without getting hurt, Spicy Peppers can be found early on the game in the snowy part of the Great Sky Island. Combining Spicy Peppers with other ingredients will offer you temporary immunity against the cold weather, depending on how much Spicy Peppers you have used in your recipe. Sunshrooms also offer the same effect if you cook them with other ingredients.

Wearing Warm Armors

Later in the game, the player can obtain warm clothing from Rito Village. You can visit the clothing shop in Ritto Village and buy the full snow armor set. As seen in the photo, I’m wearing a Snowquill Tunic, which allows me to freely roam the snowy mountains without the need for any Spicy Peppers or Sunshrooms foods.

Fusing Fire-Based Components With Your Weapons/Shields

Upon visiting the vast land of Hyrule you’re going to encounter countless beasts and monsters. Some of these monsters offer fire-based components that can be used later on fusing some powerful fire weapons. As shown in the picture I used a Fire-Breath Lizalfos Horn to create a fire-based one-handed sword.

Equipping the sword on Link’s back can keep him warm all the time without the need for any extra armor or food. Fusing the Fire-Breath Lizalfos Horn with any of your shields can also be very effective as long as you keep it equipped.
