You just upgraded your Xbox 360’s internal storage with an external HDD, and when you are ready to start moving your games off the internal to finally make some space for more, you encounter the following screen:
There’s no need to refund your external HDD fortunately, but you will have to Delete & Re-install all the games you want to move!
That’s right! Due to how licensing works on physical Xbox 360 games, you can’t just transfer an installed game from your internal to your external hard drive.
What you have to do instead, is Delete the game from your Xbox 360’s internal hard drive, and then Install it again, on your external hard drive.
You can’t have it installed on both drives at the same time.
You will notice that when you delete the game, installing won’t be readily available, it’s best to eject & close the tray again, in order to skip this issue, or even better just delete all the games you want to install on your external drive beforehand (just go inside each one to make sure no saved files are in there, and if there are, move them individually first).
Last but not least, make sure you use Cloud Saves for your games and / or that you have already transferred all your save files to your external HDD before moving forward.
