Kenshi is one versatile game, and you probably read our mod list regarding it. However, you probably wondered how to install the mods from the list. Where is the guide?

With so many mods to choose from, and from so many locations, here’s the guide to help you install mods and enhance your game.

As usual, before starting anything, get a copy of Kenshi from Steam or GOG and then you can start installing all the mods that you want or need.

Installing them via Steam Workshop

Steam is the most popular place to get Kenshi, and due to its Steam Workshop integration, it’s really easy to install the mods that you want. The biggest plus is that most of the mods are already on Steam and regularly updated.

  1. To get the mods that you want, open up the Stream Workshop where you can easily find the mods that you need. Once you do, just hit the subscribe button, to add it to your collection.

  2. Browsing the collection is super easy. Each mod that you subscribed to will be added to your collection, and in case you don’t want them, you can unsubscribe at any time.

  3. Once you run the game, you will be asked either to play the game or launch the modding tool. Select “Play Kesnhi”. Before launching the game, you can select the “Mods” to enable or disable the desired mods.

  4. After launching the game, to make sure that the mods are running, you can check again, by going to the Options menu and checking under the Mods section. Check that everything is in order, and you’re good to go! That’s it, the easiest way to install mods using Steam.

Installing mods using Nexus Mods Vortex

Nexus Mods is one of the biggest mod databases online, and you can find almost any mod that you might want. Nexus Mods also has its own easy-to-use mod manager Vortex, and here’s how to simply use it to get the best Kenshi mods into your game.

  1. Download Vortex first. Make sure that you get the latest version. Open up Vortex, go to the games section, and search for the desired game, in this case, Kenshi. If you don’t see it in the “Managed” section, you can look it up in the “Discovery” section.

  2. All the mods on Nexus follow the same installation process, no matter the type of mod. To begin, go to the Nexus Mods website and find the desired mods. Once you have found what you’re looking for, there are two buttons in the top right. Select the one that says Vortex, and this will download the mod immediately.

  3. Once the download is complete, you can go to the “Mods” section on the left, and see if the mod has been enabled. After you check that everything is enabled, just launch the game, from the Vortex itself, by pressing the little play icon. The game launcher will appear, and under the “Mods” section you can check if they’re set up correctly to be loaded into the game.

  4. After running the game, you can also double-check inside the game, by going to the Options menu and checking the Mods tab.

Installing mods manually

In case neither of these two options works for you, and you want to it manually, then follow these steps. Every mod you download has a text file explaining what the mod is about, and every mod needs to have its directory.

For example, the mods path is supposed to look like this “…kenshi\mods\modname\modname.mod”.

It’s very important to note, that you can’t change the directory name of the mod, since the more bigger mods, like texture packs, have specific paths.

So, all you need to do is, unzip the mod and put the files into the Kenshi mods directory, and it will show up once you start the game.

That’s it! Once everything has been set up, you can go and enjoy Kenshi and any number of countless mods. Be sure to check our mods list for Kenshi as well!
