Many OSRS beginners are wondering how to start making tons of gold, so that they can buy high-tier gear, and enjoy the game like the rest of the end-game players. Actually there are many methods to start making money, but in my opinion most of them are not worth it, based on the time needed, the complexity, how boring they are, and the low profits they offer, while being hard to master.

In this guide i will explain step-by-step the most efficient money making methods, where you will use your combat skills to kill monsters and bosses.  You can’t use these techniques in F2P worlds, so you need to buy at least a 14-days membership to be able to do them. Don’t let that scare you though, simply check our detailed guide on how to get your first Bond (membership) for Free!

Most of the methods in this guide won’t require much, but i will also mention huge money making methods with high requirements. The following methods will be classified in terms of difficulty, so you can choose the most suitable method for you.

If you are new to Old School Runescape, make sure to check out the beginner’s guide to OSRS first, before you dive into the practices below.

Table of Contents

1 – Killing Cave Horrors (Easy)

Leveling up or training your combat skills is extremely boring in OSRS, especially when you reach level 60 in all the combat skills, because it gets harder to level up. In general you can only be semi-afk and sometimes you can’t even be afk when it comes to combat training. Also most of the training methods are not profitable which makes you bothered even more.

So i’m going to show you how to kill Cave Horrors to level up your combat skills past level 60 while making some profits.

This method requires certain levels and the completion of certian quests of course, but it’s kinda easy to achieve them anyway.

The required quests :

The recommended levels of combat skills:

  • Level 60+ Attack
  • Level 60+ Strength
  • Level 45+ Defence
  • Level 60+ Ranged (if you are going to training ranging)

Note: This method requires Level 58 Slayer

The required items:

  • Witchwood icon (it can be purchased from any Slayer Master for 900 coins)
  • Mos le’harmless teleport ( to get there and to bank after each trip)
  • Lit Candle (or any source of light)

For the recommended gear, you can bring any gear you choose with high magic defense and bonus points to melee or ranged depends on which one of them you will train. So it’s all up to your budget and the completion of the quests required for certain items.

The Melee Gear example:

  • Berserker helm (requires The fremennik trials quest )
  • Black d’hide body
  • Black d’hide chaps
  • Combat bracelet (or Barrows gloves but it requires Recipe for Disaster)
  • Berserker ring
  • Witchwood icon
  • Rune Scimitar (or a better weapon)
  • Dragon Defender or Rune Kiteshield
  • Dragon boots (requires Level 60 Defence )

The Ranged Gear example:

  • Saradomin coif
  • Black d’hide body
  • Black d’hide chaps
  • Combat bracelet (or Barrows gloves but it requires Recipe for Disaster)
  • Archer ring (better to be imbued)
  • Witchwood icon
  • Rune crossbow or blowpipe
  • Odium ward
  • Saradomin d’hide boots

The inventory setup:

  • Sharks ( or any kind of food)
  • 4x Super Combat potion or Ranging potion
  • Mos le’harmless teleports
  • Lit Candle (or any source of light)
  • Herb sack (Optional)
  • Seed Box (Optional)

Notes:

  • The Seed Box is used to store seeds, can be purchased from Farmer Gricoller at the Tithe Farm minigame, and the Herb sack is used to store herbs, can be purchased from any Slayer Master for 750 points and requires Level 58 Herblore , both help to make more profits per trip.
  • You can bring a Dwarf Cannon if you wanna boost your Ranged EXP per hour, but you will spend more money per trip on the Cannon Balls .

To get there, use your Mos le’harmless teleport then walk east to the dungeon sign and enter the cave.

Instead, you can use the Trouble Brewing minigame teleport every 20 minutes, it’s kinda the same distance anyway.

Inside the cave you will find Albino bats and Cave Horrors , you should only kill Cave Horrors . Find a good spot and start killing them till you finish all your food and potions then use Mos le’harmless teleport again to bank your loot and repeat.

The idea of killing Cave Horrors is that they drop Black Mask which is a valuable item that can currently be sold for around 1.3M Gold. It’s drop rate is 1/512 and you will also get another decent items like herbs and seeds. So as you are training your combat skills, you are also making money, probably 400K~500K per hour excluding the Black Masks !

2 – Killing Lizardman Shamans (Med)

Killing Lizardman Shamans is one of the best money making methods in the game that requires very medium requirements and gives you huge profits in the long term. Simply you are killing them to obtain Dragon Warhammer  as a drop which costs around 60M gold.

Dragon Warhammer Price, Old School Runescape

Dragon Warhammer Price, Old School Runescape

There are some requirements for sure, but it’s not that hard to achieve. First of all, you need to finish the following quests  :

Then, you will need to achieve the following requirements:

  • Shayzien House 100% favour
  • Level 40 Prayer or higher
  • Shayzien Armour tier 5
  • Buying Dwarf Cannon (costs around 750K gold)
  • Level 61 Ranged at least to use Rune crossbow , or level 75 to use Blowpipe

Optional: If you are going to use Rune crossbow , then maybe you better achieve level 55 Slayer to access to Broad bolts which are fairly cheaper than Adamant boltswith the same strength.

Note: If you are going to use Blowpipe (which i highly recommend once you reach level 75 Ranged ), then use Adamant darts since they offer the best DPS in terms of price.

You can reach 100% Shayzien House favour by doing the following steps:

1Do the “Heal Injured Soldiers” Shayzien activity. To do that you will have to get yourself to the Infirmary tent which located in the Shayzien area, by using the Skills necklaceteleport to the Woodcutting Guild then walk northwest till you reach the tent.

Woodcutting Guild to Infirmary Tent Route, Old School Runescape

Woodcutting Guild to Infirmary Tent Route, Old School Runescape

Once you get there, talk to Nurse Boubou, choose to help the Wounded soldiers, go pick a full inventory of Medpacks from the other tent, then go inside the tent behind her and start healing the soldiers, which will give you 0.1% Shayzien favour for each soldier you heal.

Healing Injured Soldiers, Old School Runescape

When you are out of Medpacks , run back to the other tent and pick another full inventory and so on. Note that you can bring Stamina potions to speed up the process.

Keep doing the same process until you reach 40% favour. You can keep doing it till 100% but you will get bored, so it’s up to you.

2Do the “Tackle Organised Crime” Shayzien activity. To do that you will have to talk to Captain Ginea who is located in a tent just north of the Medpack’s tent, then ask him “Do you know of any meetings now?”, then he will give you information about the next meeting of the gang, such as where and when it will occur.

Captain Ginea Location, Old School Runescape

But keep in mind that you will need a decent armour and weapon to be able to kill the gang members. Once he gives you the information, you can check this Link to know where exactly they will appear. You should keep doing that until reaching 100% Shayzien favour.

By gaining 100% Shayzien favour, you’ll have access to the Shayzien Armour tier 5 and being able to kill the Lizardman Shamans .

Shayzien Activity Achievements, Old School Runescape

Shayzien Activity Achievements, Old School Runescape

To obtain the Shayzien Armour tier 5 , you will have to fight the 5 warriors in the combat ring just west of Captain Ginea, and kill each one of them 5 times until you obtain the full armour of each tier, then drop the 1~4 tier armour and keep the 5th armour. For sure you will need food, decent armour and a weapon to kill them so keep that in mind.

By wearing the Shayzien armour tier 5 , it will protect you from the poison attack of the Lizardman Shamans which can deal a huge damage to you.

Now you are almost ready to kill the Lizardman Shamans , but first you have to know how to get there, the gear you need, the inventory setup, the cannon placement and how to kill them.

The gear you’ll need:

  • Shayzien armour tier 5
  • Rune crossbow or blowpipe (depends on your level)
  • Amulet of Glory or higher
  • Ring of Wealth (collects the gold coins and teleports you out to the Grand Exchange)
  • Ava’s accumulator

  • 2x Ranging potion
  • 2x Antidote++ potion
  • 1200x Cannon ball

How to get there:

To get there you can use the Xeric’s Talisman teleport to Xeric’s Inferno then walk south until you reach the area.

To get the Xeric’s Talisman you will have to kill the Lizardman Shamans first to obtain it as a drop, but you can use the Skills Necklace teleport to the Woodcutting Guild instead and walk northwest until you reach the area since it will be your first time to get there.

Note: you can also use the Fairy Ring transportation system which is the fastest way to shamans, but it requires starting the Fairy Tale II – Cure a Queen quest and getting permission from the Fairy Godfather.

Once you get there, you will have to check if the spot is taken or not by right clicking on the Soldier then choose “Canyon-count west Soldier” and he will scout the area for you.

If you get the following message in the chat box, then that means the spot is free. If not then you will have to hob to another world until you find a free spot.

When you find a free spot, use one dose of your Antidote++ potion , one dose of your Ranging potion and one dose of your Stamina potion . Then setup your Quick-prayers to Protect from Missiles and use the ladder to go down to the northwestern corner of the canyon.

Now step on the highlighted tile and click on your Dwarf Cannon to place it, but keep in mind that you make take damage as you place it, so be careful.

All you need to do now is attacking the Lizardman Shamans , reloading the cannon, reloading your prayer points, paying attention to the count down of your potions and avoid getting killed.

To avoid getting killed, you have to understand their attack styles, which i will explain down below:

The first attack style is Jumping, they will jump for 2 seconds and land on you dealing 20-25 unblockable damage as long as you are one tile or more away from the wall, so you will have to attack them while standing next to any wall in the Canyon.

Lizardman Shamans Safe Zone, Old School Runescape

Lizardman Shamans Safe Zone, Old School Runescape

The second attack style is Summoning Minions, these minions will run towards you and explode after a few seconds dealing 5-10 damage, but as long as you are 2 tiles away from them, they will deal no damage to you.

The third attack style is Melee, try avoid running near the Shamans or they will deal a huge damage to you.

The Fourth attack style is Poisonous Spit, which can’t deal any damage to you since you are wearing the Shayzien Armour tier 5 .

By the time you will get used to it and it will be so easy to kill them, also your kills per hour will increase as long as your Ranged level is increasing.

Your goal is to kill 80~150 Lizardman Shamans per trip, which should last for 40~60 minutes. The more you kill, the higher chance you may get Dragon Warhammer , because it’s drop chance is 1/5000.

By doing 6 trips daily or more, you can probably get the Dragon Warhammer in 7~8 days and sell it for 60M !

Note: you should expect 400K~700K gold per trip in the form of drops, so don’t worry about the cost of each trip, because you will make around 300K profit per trip.

3 – Killing Brutal Black Dragons (Med)

Killing Brutal Black Dragons is very efficient way to make money and train your Ranged level as well, but the required Slayer level to be able to kill them makes this method kinda hard to utilize. So if you have the required Slayer level, it will be very efficient for you to utilize this method.

The requirements:

  • Level 77 Slayer
  • Level 75+ Ranged
  • Level 44+ Prayer

Gear setup (medium cost):

  • Karil’s armour
  • Barrows Gloves
  • Blowpipe (use Adamant darts )
  • Holy Blessing (or any kind of blessings)
  • Amulet of Fury
  • Saradomin d’hide boots (or any kind of God d’hide boots)
  • Archers Ring
  • Ava’s Assembler

Gear setup (high cost):

  • Void Range armour (can be purchased from Pest Control minigame)
  • Dragon Hunter Crossbow (use Diamond Dragon bolts “e” )
  • Pegasian boots
  • Necklace of Anguish
  • Archers Ring “i”
  • Ava’s Assembler
  • Odium Ward

Note: You can always mix between the two Setups above to get the best DPS possible based on your budget.

Inventory Setup:

  • Ranging potion
  • Extended Antifire potion
  • 3x Super Restore potion
  • Xeric’s Talisman
  • House Teleport Tablets (to get out after each trip)

How to get there:

Use Skills Necklace to teleport to the Woodcutting Guild then walk all the way to the Catacombs of Kourend, and follow the path shown below to the spot. You’ll find a rope there which is used to unlock a shortcut, so climb it to unlock the shortcut.

Once you are there, use your potions and set your quick-prayers to Protect From Magic and Eagle Eye . While killing the dragons, you can make up to 1.5M Gold per hour, not to mention the rare drops such as Draconic Visage which costs around 8M Gold !

4 – Killing Demonic Gorillas (Hard)

Killing Demonic Gorillas is good way to train your Combat skills while making good amount of money. It’s fighting mechanism is kinda hard, but you will get used to it in a short time.

The Requirements:

  • Completion of Monkey Madness II
  • Level 43+ Prayer
  • Level 75+ Ranged
  • Level 75+ Attack
  • Level 75+ Defence
  • Level 75+Strength
  • Install RuneLite Client (Makes Demonic Gorillas much easier)

Gear Setup:

In this guide, i’m going to mention the Void setup only to make it easier for beginners. When you get used to it, you can then bring more switches.

  • Void Range Armour (obtained through Pest Control Minigame)
  • Blowpipe (use Rune darts )
  • Saradomin d’hide boots
  • Holy blessing (or any kind of blessings)
  • Archers Ring “i”
  • Ava’s Assembler
  • Void Melee Helm (for switching)
  • Abyssal Whip
  • Dragon Defender (Obtained from Warriors’ Guild)

Inventory Setup:

  • 1x Ranging potion
  • 4x Prayer Potion
  • 1x Super Combat Potion
  • Sharks
  • House Teleport Tablets (to get out of there)
  • Grand Seed Pod (to get there)
  • Abyssal Whip
  • Dragon Defender
  • Void Melee Helm

How to get there:

Use your Grand Seed Pod to teleport to Tree Gnome Stronghold, then walk northwest till you reach the fence’s gap.

Inside the Cave, you should follow the path shown below to reach the spot, which is basically walking east, then north, then west.

How to Kill:

Demonic Gorillas have the ability to cast prayers just like you, they will pray Protect From Missiles  if you are using Ranged, and Protect From Melee if you are using Melee. They will switch between prayers once you deal more than 50 damage to them with the attack style, for example:

  • If are using Ranged while they are praying Protect From Melee , they will switch to  Protect From Missiles  once you deal 50+ damage to them, and the same applies if you are using Melee against  Protect From Missiles .

So you will have to switch to the other attack style to keep damaging them once they change their prayers.

Demonic Gorilla's Prayers, Old School Runescape

Demonic Gorilla’s Prayers, Old School Runescape

They can also use the 3 types of attack styles (Ranged, Melee, Magic), they will switch between styles once they perform 3 attacks of one of the styles.

That’s why you have to use RuneLite , because it will show you when they will change their attack style, in form of a counter above their prayers, then you will be able to switch your prayers faster.

So if they use Ranged, you pray Protect From Missiles , if they use Melee, you pray Protect From Melee , if they use Magic, you pray Protect From Magic .

They can also use a special attack, which is a falling boulder from the roof, but it’s pretty easy to dodge.

Demonic Gorilla's Special Attack, Old School Runescape

The fighting mechanism is kinda complicated, but you will get used to it quickly. By doing that, you can get up to 2.2M Gold per hour, not to mention the unique drops such as Zenyte Shard which costs 14M and has a drop chance of 1/300.

5 – Killing Vorkath (Very Hard)

Killing Vorkath is one of the best endgame money making methods, which can be utilized to make around 2~3M Gold per hour. Actually it requires high requirements including the completion of a very hard quest, but what you need to know is that Vorkath is arguably the easiest endgame boss in OSRS, which makes the effort to achieve these requirements is very worthy.

The Requirements:

  • Completion of Dragon Slayer 2
  • Level 85+ Ranged (the higher the better profits)
  • Level 70+ Defense
  • Level 80+ Mage
  • Rune Pouch (can be obtained from any Slayer master for 1,250 points)
  • Level 44+ Prayer

The Gear Setup (low cost):

  • Void Range armour (obtained through Pest Control Minigame)
  • Blowpipe (use Rune darts )
  • Saradomin d’hide boots
  • Holy blessing (or any kind of blessings)
  • Archers Ring “i”
  • Salve Amulet “ei”
  • Ava’s Assembler
  • Bandos Godsword (use it’s Special Attack to hit the boss to lower it’s defence)

The Gear Setup (high cost):

  • Elite Void Range armour (obtained through Pest Control Minigame, but requires the completion of West Provinces Hard Diary)
  • Dragon Hunter Crossbow (use Diamond Dragon bolts “e” & Ruby Dragon bolts “e” )
  • Pegasian boots (not really worth it)
  • Dragonfire Ward (you can use Anti-Dragon Shield instead)
  • Salve Amulet “ei”
  • Ava’s Assembler
  • Archers Ring “i”

Notes:

  • Using Dragon Hunter Crossbow is much better and you can also use it with the low cost setup excluding the Bandos Godsword and the Holy blessing .
  • Elite Void Range armour is kinda hard to get, but it worth the time in my opinion.
  • You can also unlock Rigour prayer by buying a Dexterous prayer scroll instead of spending money on Dragonfire Ward and Pegasian boots .
  • If you are going to use Blowpipe , then you will pray Protect From Magic , but if you are going to use Dragon Hunter Crossbow , then you will pray Protect From Missiles .

Inventory Setup (Blowpipe):

  • Bandos Godsword
  • 3x Super Restore potion
  • 1x Ranging potion
  • 1x Extended Antifire potion
  • 2x Anti-venom potion
  • Rune Pouch (contains Dust, Law and Chaos runes)
  • Sharks (the rest of the slots)

Inventory Setup (Dragon Hunter Crossbow):

  • 2x Super Restore potion
  • 1x Ranging potion
  • 1x Extended Antifire potion
  • 2x Anti-venom potion
  • Rune Pouch (contains Dust, Law and Chaos runes)
  • Sharks (the rest of the slots)
  • Diamond Dragon bolts “e” (use it when the Vorkath’s hp is below 40%)

Notes:

  • Rune Pouch is used to cast House Teleport and Crumble Undead , i will explain why later.
  • You can bring Anti-venom+ and Extended Super Antifire , but in my opinion it’s a waste of money.
  • The kills per trip varies depending on your gear and combat levels, but in general you will get more kills per trip using Dragon Hunter Crossbow .

How to get there and out from there:

The fastest way to get there is to be on World #330 since it’s the house party world, use the House teleport (runes), then find a host with high Construction level and enter his/her house and use the Portal Nexus to teleport to Lunar Isle.

Portal Nexus Teleport, Old School Runescape

On Lunar Isle, you will find a bank to store the loot and to prepare your inventory for each trip, then speak to the nearby NPC to kick you out to Rellekka and from there you can teleport to Vorkath by using Fremennik Boat.

To get out of there, you have to use the House teleport again, but this time you will have to drink from the Ornate Rejuvenation Pool to restore your stats before using Portal Nexus.

How to kill:

Killing Vorkath is easy and you will get used to it the more you kill it, but you will find it kinda hard at the beginning of course.

First of all Vorkath has a melee attack which deals huge damage, so don’t stand ever next to it. Once you are there, use one dose of Ranging potion , one dose of Extended Antifire potion , use your quick-prayers and start killing it.

If you are going to use Blowpipe , then use Protect From Magic and Eagle Eye or Rigour , if not, then use Protect From Missiles and Eagle Eye or Rigour , because while using Blowpipe , the boss will deal huge magic damage to you from it’s dragonfire attacks since you can’t use Anti-Dragon Shield . But if you are using Dragon Hunter Crossbow , you will be able to use the shield (plus the potion) to mitigate the magic damage.

Note: you will still get damaged from the ranged attack while using Blowpipe which has a max hit of 35. Also the same applies to Dragon Hunter Crossbow , but it will be the magic non-dragonfire attack which has a max hit of 30.

This boss has 3 different dragonfire attacks, each one has it’s own effect.

1- Green Dragonfire: can inflict venom, if it does then you will have to use Anti-venom dose to negate it.

2- Orange Dragonfire: normal dragonfire, has no effect.

3- Pink Dragonfire: will turn off your quick-prayers, so all you have to do is to turn it on again.

Pink Dragonfire Attack, Old School Runescape

There’s also 1 devastating attack which is called Dragonfire Bomb, it can deal 60~121 damage depends on the distance between you and it’s landing tile. All you have to do is to run 2 tile away at least from the impact to avoid it completely.

Dragonfire Bomb Attack, Old School Runescape

In addition to all of the mentioned attack styles, Vorkath will use 1 special attack every 7 regular attacks.

There are 2 special attacks:

1- White Dragonfire: it will freeze you and summon a minion which will explode dealing around 60 damage to you depends on the minion’s HP. So to negate it, you have to cast Crumble Undead on the minion quickly to prevent it from reaching you.

White Dragonfire Special Attack, Old School Runescape

2- Acid Phase: in general, you must turn off your run energy while being in combat with Vorkath just for this specific phase. This phase consists of throwing acid on some tiles and casting rapid dragonfire balls towards you.

The acid on the tiles will deal 5~10 damage to you and heal the boss every time you walk on it, so you will have to avoid walking on it.

The rapid dragonfire balls will deal 20~36 damage to you for each ball hits you, so to negate it you will have to keep walking (not running) on a row of non-acidic tiles back and forth.

Note: you must not wait until your character reaches the tile you clicked on, you must click on the tile which located at the opposite end of the row and repeat.

When you die at Vorkath , you can get your items back by paying 100K Gold to Torfinn near the Fremennik Boat.

Collecting Lost Items, Old School Runescape

Some important notes:

  • Turn off your quick-prayer during the 2 special attacks to save some prayer points, then turn it back on before the regular attack begins.
  • Eat food if needed while being frozen.
  • Use 1 dose of Ranging potion at the beginning of each kill.
  • Teleport to House if you are about to die, so you don’t have to pay 100K Gold to get your items back.

Killing Vorkath gives you huge profits per hour, but you can also get some unique drops, such as Draconic Visage and Skeletal Visage . Both have prices of 8M Gold and 37M Gold respectively and a drop chance of 1/5000.

That’s all, hope you find a suitable method for your account to start making money. Stay tuned for more guides in the future. Feel free to ask me any question through the comments !
