EA’s trying to break all records with the amount of Sims 4 expansion packs, game packs, and stuff packs that are available, and I think they’re doing a great job so far?! If you don’t want to break your mind – and your wallet – trying to decide the best expansions for your Sims 4 collection, go through this detailed DLC list, that contains all the information you need to know for every single expansion pack.

Let’s address the ElephAnt in the room though – getting all of them will cost you a small fortune – especially when you get them for the suggested retail price. If you aim to get a lot, it’s best to wait for EA / Origin sales, and save almost 50% (if not more) of the total cost. You can check below how much it would cost you to get all of them?:

The Sims 4 Expansions

When we’re talking about Sims 4 expansions, we’re talking about the real thing! These are the most content-rich DLCs Maxis releases for The Sims 4, and only one is being released per year on average.

These add a lot of new mechanics and gameplay choices in the base game, and always have a central theme – as all The Sims expansions do since the beginning!

Cottage Living (July 2021)

Release Date: July 22, 2021

Buy Cottage Living from EA for 39.99$ / 39.99€ / 34.99£.

Snowy Escape (November 2020)

Release Date: November 3, 2020
Main Gameplay Elements: Winter Sports, Lifestyles
Skills Added: Rock Climbing, Skiing, Snowboarding
New Neighbourhood: Mt. Komorebi

Buy Snowy Escape from EA for 39.99$ / 39.99€ / 34.99£.

Sims 4’s DLCs have been heavily criticized for the amount of content and features they provide – especially in comparison to The Sims 3 – and Snowy Escape seems to be the.. better late than never response from EA. For starters, we get a “massive” (in Sims 4 standards) new World, that is actually large enough to be considered a neighbourhood, including multiple unique lots, and tons to discover!

On top of this, there are 3 new skills specific to Winter Sports, more mountain activities, and a core gameplay mechanic called “Lifestyles”, that will further refine your Sims’ personalities and emotional state, while playing together with the new “Sentiments” feature (similar to Sims 3’s memories), that arrived as a free update for everyone. There’s much to do on this one, and a ton of new objects and clothes, so it’s definitely worth considering.

Eco Lifestyle (June 2020)

Release Date: June 4, 2020
Main Gameplay Elements: Sustainable Living, Common Neighbourhood Goals

Buy Eco Lifestyle from EA for 39.99$ / 39.99€ / 34.99£.

An eco-expansion has been hyped for a long time, and the time has indeed come! Eco Lifestyle is a true work of Sims-art, adding most probably the most character and realism to the game, than any other expansion so far. The main feature I’m most excited about is the Neighborhood Action Plan! For the first time, there is a sense of camaraderie with your neighbors – they’re not just your toys anymore! ?

The new interactions don’t stop there, as with the new recycling / reusing system you can take advantage of many “green” activities, that will even change the world around you! Do you want polluted skies, or heavenly clean waters? By producing your own electricity, water, or even growing your vegetables in a vertical garden, you can have a big impact in the environment around you! A must-have for roleplayers and builders alike!

Discover University (November 2019)

The Sims 4 Expansion Pack, Discover University

Release Date: November 14, 2019
Main Gameplay Elements: Campus, Degrees, Roommates
Careers Added: Education, Law & Engineering

Buy Discover University from EA for 39.99$ / 39.99€ / 34.99£.

The most awaited, “leaked” and rumored expansion for The Sims 4, has arrived as the 8th game expansion, and is entitled Discover University! The hype is real, and if you have any soul, your nostalgia will be climaxing on this one! ? Even though I was never a “uni” fan IRL, there’s nothing like experiencing it with your Sims, and especially with Sims 4’s performance!

There are 13 degrees / classes to enroll in, and being present on time, while training your skills will be essential if you aim to get any good grades! Get around the campus on a bike, pick up extracurricular activities, or even post an ad to get a roomate to help with the household’s expenses! University offers just too much to mention here, and I’m sure you already know if it’s an expansion you need to have in your collection! ?

Island Living (June 2019)

The Sims 4 Expansion Pack, Island Living

Release Date: June 21, 2019
Main Gameplay Elements: Island Activities & Nature Preservation
Careers Added: Conservationist
New Neighbourhood: Sulani

Buy Island Living from EA or HumbleBundle for 39.99$ / 39.99€ / 34.99£.

Island Living got a lot of hype in Social Media, and it didn’t disappoint! The new.. neighborhood (more like block of islands), Sulani, is quite special since it’s got an actual health system, and you can actually help preserve the wildlife and untouched nature, as well as improve it!

There’s many features aiming to make your Island stay unique, from Snorkeling / Scuba Diving, Fish Traps, Underwater Foundations / Buildings and Dolphins, to even Mermaids! The new career, Conservationist, is ideal for eco-conscious playersâ™», letting you become an Environmental Manager or a Marine Biologist, helping to prolong wildlife, and keep Sulani “in shape”.

Get Famous (November 2018)

"The

Release Date: November 16, 2018
Main Gameplay Elements: Celebrity Fame System
Careers Added: Actor
Skills Added: Acting, Media Production

Buy Get Famous from EA for 39.99$ / 39.99€ / 34.99£ or HumbleBundle for 39.99$ / 39.99€ / 30.89£.

Following the tradition of.. re-releasing all the original and most-loved Sims 3 expansions in better versions (can you blame them?), Get Famous expands upon Late Night’s celebrity features, by giving our Sims what they always deserved.. actual Fame!

Through the immensely fun active Actor career, performing for other Sims or selling your art, you can increase your Fame. And why would you do that? Because there’s special perks which you can attain as your celebrity status rises, including ones that make your life / career easier (gotta love these?) and even launching your own brand!

Seasons (June 2018)

"The

Release Date: June 22, 2018
Main Gameplay Elements: Seasons
Careers Added: Gardening
Skills Added: Flower Arranging

Buy Seasons from EA for 39.99$ / 39.99€ / 34.99£ or HumbleBundle for 39.99$ / 39.99€ / 39.99£.

A must have for Simddicted people and a classic one in the series, Seasons brings back what we all waited to happen, the four seasons!

Obviously, gardening is in the spotlight with Seasons, with many more features being added and overhauled (for those not owning the expansion as well). It’s now less tedious, and more natural.

Holidays are in as well, with a fully functional calendar and the ability to plan and see upcoming events.

Cats & Dogs (November 2017)

The Sims 4 Expansions Pack, Cats & Dogs

The Sims 4 Expansions Pack, Cats & Dogs

Release Date: November 10, 2017
Main Gameplay Elements: Pets
Careers Added: Veterinary
Skills Added: Veterinary, Pet Training
New Neighbourhood: Brindleton Bay

Buy Cats & Dogs from EA for 39.99$ / 39.99€ / 34.99£ or HumbleBundle for 39.99$ / 39.99€ / 30.89£.

The most awaited expansion for The Sims, is always the one adding pets, proving how much we love our feline and canine friends!

The Sims 4’s edition of pets, named “Cats & Dogs“, is definitely the best iteration Maxis has done for all the games! Pet creation is excellent, all the animations & interactions look & feel more than real, and there’s a ton of more things to do with your pets than in the previous games.

I was amazed at how well thought the implementation was, and how natural cats and dogs react with the environment, the objects and the humans around them!

What’s more important, is that it no longer feels like a chore to be a pet owner (looking at you Sims 3), and your pets’ lives blend with your sims naturally. You still have to take care of them, but it’s now fun! And well, there’s automatic Simlutions for those who run busier lives.

City Living (October 2016)

"The

Release Date: October 1, 2016
Main Gameplay Elements: Apartments & Festivals
Careers Added: Food / Art Critic, Political, Social Media
Skills Added: Singing
New Neighbourhood: San Myshuno

Buy City Living from EA for 39.99$ / 39.99€ / 34.99£ or HumbleBundle for 39.99$ / 39.99€ / 30.89£.

Similar to The Sims 3 Late Night (though less packed with features), City Living introduces apartments in Sims 4, and makes its small cities feel more lively.

Many cultural festivals and events will now take place in your area, opening up possibilities for many unique items, interactions and memories to collect!

Renting an apartment will be harder to maintain than the casual bills your Sims are used to, but that’s the trade-off for living in the big city of San Myshuno! The streets are packed with street painting, food and tourists, so there’s always something or someone new to discover.

Lot traits have been introduced to the game as well, and they are a great addition! Now all houses in Sims 4 (it’s a free update for owners of the base game as well) come with their own traits, whether they concern a haunted house, or the best place for friends to meet up!

Get To Work (March 2015)

"The

Release Date: March 31, 2015
Main Gameplay Elements: Active Careers & Retail Stores
Careers Added: Doctor, Detective, Scientist
Skills Added: Photography, Baking
New Neighbourhood: Magnolia Promenade

Buy Get to Work from EA for 39.99$ / 39.99€ / 34.99£ or HumbleBundle for 39.99$ / 39.99€ / 30.89£.

Get To Work is the most feature-packed expansion of The Sims 4 (and not because I’m a workaholic).

Following Sims 3 Ambitions & Sims 2 Open For Business’ steps, it brings active careers to the game, as well as the option to become a store owner (selling anything available in the buy mode), where you will be responsible for the store, the staff & its success.

A great opportunity for freelancers / work-from-homers, since they can also take advantage of their crafting skills, and sell their art & creations to the SimWorld!

There’s really too much going on in the expansion, so it’s a must have (did I mention it adds Aliens too? Yes, you can (will) get pregnant).

Get Together (December 2015)

"The

Release Date: December 8, 2015
Main Gameplay Elements: Clubs
Skills Added: Dancing, DJ
New Neighbourhood: Windenburg

Buy Get Together from EA for 39.99$ / 39.99€ / 34.99£ or HumbleBundle for 39.99$ / 39.99€ / 30.89£.

Get Together is the first expansion released for The Sims 4, and it builds upon the great social features of the game, giving a wide array of possibilities and options for your Sims’ social lives!

The expansion adds Clubs, which work with many interesting features like “allowed / disallowed” traits, hangouts, perks, leadership and many more ways to make an impact with your unique team of.. you choose what!

It goes to show how much Maxis has invested in bringing The Sims even closer to our real lives, while relating with many different cultural, age & racial groups, so that literally no one is left out.

The Sims 4 Game Packs

Game Packs are a new type of DLC that started with The Sims 4, and they sit between expansions and stuff packs.

Each one focuses on a certain niche, and enriches it with many interactions, items and features. They aren’t as essential as expansions from a gameplay aspect, and I personally think it’s a great move from the developers to “split” the DLCs into these three types.

My Wedding Stories (February 2022)

Release Date: February 23, 2022

Buy My Wedding Stories from EA for 19.99$ / 19.99€ / 17.99£

Dream Home Decorator (June 2021)

Release Date: June 1, 2021

Buy Dream Home Decorator from EA for 19.99$ / 19.99€ / 17.99£

Star Wars: Journey to Batuu (September 2020)

Release Date: September 8, 2020
Main Gameplay Elements: Faction Missions, Travel Collectibles

Buy Star Wars: Journey to Batuu from EA for 19.99$ / 19.99€ / 17.99£

Journey to Batuu is the most negatively received Sims 4 expansion to date, simply because it’s… out of place! It’s not the first time EA decides to collaborate with another big brand in The Sims franchise, but arguably MAC cosmetics & Moschino clothing is a much better fit than… Star Wars!

After the initial announcement’s cringe and actually playing the Game Pack, I have to say it’s far better than what I had in mind! Sure, creating a.. how do you call these weird guys is not for me, but there’s a lot to explore in your Batuu adventure, mission-based gameplay that adds a nice twist, and a lot of amazing futuristic objects that will complement your builds, even if you never venture to the Star Wars’ universe!

Realm of Magic (September 2019)

Release Date: September 10, 2019
Main Gameplay Elements: Spellcasting
New World: Glimmerbrook
New Neighbourhood: The Magic Realm

Buy Realm of Magic from EA for 19.99$ / 19.99€ / 17.99£ or get it cheaper here (g2a).

I really didn’t expect we would get Realm of Magic just after StrangerVille! At last, full Harry-Potter functionality without mods?! Spellcasters are a new type of Occult Sims, which you can choose when you Create-A-Sim. They follow a similar mechanic with Vampires, where they advance on their Bloodline rank, unlocking skills & abilities on their way to the top!

What’s more, spellcasters can bind Familiars to them (anywhere from Fairies, to Dragons, Ravens & Frogs), which will help them in many aspects of their lives, from magic duels, to protecting them from death itself! There’s a nice variety of new interactable objects (cauldrons, spell books, wands, magic brooms etc) for your Witches & Wizards, as well as appropriate furniture items to create your dream Hogwarts condo!

StrangerVille (February 2019)

The Sims 4 Game Pack, Strangerville

The Sims 4 Game Pack, Strangerville

Release Date: February 26, 2019
Main Gameplay Elements: Mystery Solving & Exploration
New Neighbourhood: StrangerVille

Buy StrangerVille from EA for 19.99$ / 19.99€ / 17.99£ or get it cheaper here (g2a).

Arriving a whole year after the release of the previous Game Pack, StrangerVille is.. strange indeed! It breaks apart from what we’ve come to expect out of Game Packs, though I’m not really sure it’s for “good” or “bad”.

There’s no new skills introduced here, but there’s a new work from home career – the Military career, as well as a great storyline to follow in the town, and help its strange citizens come out of whatever conspiracy is happening around them.

There’s a lot for the conspiracy-fans here in general, since you’ll find government agents, scientists or military executives contributing to the Strangeness!

Jungle Adventure (February 2018)

The Sime 4 Game Pack, Jungle Adventure

The Sime 4 Game Pack, Jungle Adventure

Release Date: February 27, 2018
Main Gameplay Elements: Relics & Adventures
Skills Added: Archaeology
New Neighbourhood: Selvadorada

Buy Jungle Adventure from EA for 19.99$ / 19.99€ / 17.99£ or get it cheaper here (g2a).

Getting inspiration from The Sime 3 World Adventures (though not as much as they could?), Jungle Adventure will test your Sims’ wits, and fill their home with treasures.

Advance your archaeology skill, get knee-deep in lost temples and overcome all the obstacles and mini games your Sims will face, while collecting ancient artifacts for your displaying pleasure!

I would leave this one for the final pieces of your collection, as I don’t think it blends great with all the rest expansion & game packs.

Parenthood (May 2017)

The Sims 4 Game Pack, Parenthood

The Sims 4 Game Pack, Parenthood

Release Date: May 30, 2017
Main Gameplay Elements: Raising Children
Skills Added: Parenting

Buy Parenthood from EA for 19.99$ / 19.99€ / 17.99£ or get it cheaper here (g2a).

Parenthood adds a lot, but unfortunately it feels like 100% of the features should have been in the main game.

It’s a must-have for roleplayers, and those that love to spend time advancing their Sim families, since there are great concepts in the impact you can have raising your children, teaching them what’s right, showing them the right direction, and using a handful of methods to do (and remember) so.

I don’t have much to add here, this Game pack has left a sour taste on my mouth. If you’re playing with a family, it’s a must-have.

Vampires (January 2017)

The Sims 4 Game Pack, Vampires

The Sims 4 Game Pack, Vampires

Release Date: January 24, 2017
Main Gameplay Elements: Vampirism?
Skills Added: Vampire Lore
New Neighbourhood: Forgotten Hollow

Buy Vampires from EA for 19.99$ / 19.99€ / 17.99£ or get it cheaper here (g2a).

Well.. It’s Vampires! No matter how many features or items are in there, this is hate it or love it!

For those of us who love it, the reward is great since vamps in The Sims 4 have been reborn to their best version yet.

How does becoming a Vampire Grand Master by raising your ranks and powers sound? How about turning into a bat or mind controlling others around you? While staying in the goth-town of Forgotten Hollow?

No more spoilers, just get the Game Pack!

Dine Out (June 2016)

The Sims 4 Game Pack, Dine Out

The Sims 4 Game Pack, Dine Out

Release Date: June 7, 2016
Main Gameplay Elements: Owning a Restaurant!

Buy Dine Out from EA for 19.99$ / 19.99€ / 17.99£ or get it cheaper here (g2a).

Building upon Get to Work’s features and business management, Dine Out focuses on restaurants, and does a great job at that!

The game goes into great detail on how you are managing your restaurant, the staff (host, waiter & chef), the decoration, the menu, the prices and even how involved you are in the whole process. It really doesn’t get better!

Foodies are going to love this one, and of course they can take advantage of the new restaurants and foods the game has to offer,  by dining out with their Simfriends!

Spa Day (July 2015)

The Sims 4 Game Pack, Spa Day

The Sims 4 Game Pack, Spa Day

Release Date: July 14, 2015
Main Gameplay Elements: Meditation & Time-Off
Skills Added: Welness

Buy Spa Day from EA for 19.99$ / 19.99€ / 17.99£ or get it cheaper here (g2a).

This is one these Sims expansions where you’re left to wonder “Uhm, is this worth it?” the day it comes  out. After all, how would a Spa Day significantly contribute to your Sims experience?

Well, I’m a happy customer with this one, since the way it blends with the rest of the game, simply makes it a must-have. No, I’m not just talking about how many great luxuries you can afford (even at home) like a sauna and a massage table, but also how much helpful all the new moodlets around you are.

From taking a special bath, to using incenses and meditating, there’s so many ways you can “set” the right moodlet for your sim, and help them focus, relax or feel flirty, depending on your social and career needs.

I also want to mention that the number of items added in Spa Day is enormous, so this is a must-have!

Outdoor Retreat (January 2015)

The Sims 4 Game Pack, Outdoor Retreat

The Sims 4 Game Pack, Outdoor Retreat

Release Date: January 13, 2015
Main Gameplay Elements: Outdoor Activities & Vacations
Skills Added: Herbalism
Collectibles Added: 5 Fish, 10 Herbs & 21 Insects
New Neighbourhood: Granite Falls

Buy Outdoor Retreat from EA for 19.99$ / 19.99€ / 17.99£ or get it cheaper here (g2a).

Outdoor Retreat is a perfect example of how Game Packs have evolved the concept of Sims 3’s “strict” stuff packs. High End Loft Stuff is the Sims 3 counterpart here, but Outdoor Retreat has so much more to offer.

There’s not any groundbreaking additions mind you, but I’m certain that any pure The Sims fan will appreciate how many more things their Sims can do now!

The Sims 4 took a lot from 3’s open world, leaving all of us disappointed on that aspect. Outdoor Retreat fixes a part of the problem, by adding much more engagement to the outdoors and all the neighborhoods.

The Sims 4 Stuff Packs

Stuff packs are the smallest Sims 4 expansions, and as their name indicates, they simply add more stuff to the game!

There are 17 stuff packs released up to date, and each one costs 9.99€ / 9.99$. All stuff packs, add at least one item with a new interaction your sims can take.

Paranormal Stuff Pack (January 2021)

Release Date: January 26, 2021
New Skill: Medium
Create-A-Sim Items: 32
Build Mode Items: 39

Buy Paranormal Stuff Pack from EA for 9.99$ / 9.99€ / 9.99£.

EA is responding to the popularity of “magical” features, and brings us yet another spooky expansion with the Paranormal Stuff Pack! It takes full advantage of the new “Scared” emotion, as you will meet quite a few Ghostly friends in the new “Haunted House” lot types – which can be assigned to any residential lot.

Interacting with Spectres will raise your Medium skill, which you can take advantage in the new “Paranormal Investigator” active career, as well as summon the beloved Bonehilda to help you with your day-to-day chores! The CAS & Build items left me a bit dissatisfied, but the overall gameplay additions will add to your fantasy-themed playthroughs!

Nifty Knitting Stuff Pack (July 2020)

Release Date: July 28, 2020
New Skill: Knitting
Create-A-Sim Items: 41
Build Mode Items: 24

Buy Nifty Knitting Stuff Pack from EA for 9.99$ / 9.99€ / 9.99£.

The Nifty Knitting Stuff Pack is a bit more special, since a community vote for its final name and icon was held! The main theme obviously focuses on knitting, and there’s even a brand new skill for your Sims!

What’s more, you can enjoy knitting in the new rocking chairs, and then sell your creations through the online marketplace Ets… I mean Plopsy! Of course there’s a big array of clothing, hairstyles and furniture to match your new hobby, and overall, this one left me much more satisfied than the average Sims 4 Stuff Pack?. Hope we see more like it!

Tiny Living (January 2020)

Release Date: January 21, 2020
Create-A-Sim Items: 32
Build Mode Items:
34

Buy Tiny Living from EA for 9.99$ / 9.99€ / 9.99£.

Tiny Living brings a lot of needed extras to Discover University’s additions, since it focuses on making the most out of small spaces! Unique challenges tailored to living… small are included, making this a must-have addition if you enjoy the University gameplay.

There are some amazing space-saving items, like the folding bed, or the all-in-on entertainment system! Your Sims can definitely do more with less with this one, so do consider it if you’re a Stuff-pack addict! ?

Moschino Stuff Pack (August 2019)

The Sims 4 Stuff Pack, Moschino Stuff Pack

Release Date: August 13, 2019
New Career: Fashion Photography
Create-A-Sim Items: 24
Build Mode Items:
38

Buy Moschino Stuff Pack from EA for 9.99$ / 9.99€ / 9.99£ or get it cheaper here (g2a).

Another clothing brand collaboration pack for The Sims 4 (after Diesel Stuff on 3), Moschino Stuff Pack is a must-have for you fashion addicts out there! Make sure to check out Moschino’s Capsule Collection FW19, which actually inspired the items in the pack (by far the best “gaming” clothing I’ve ever witnessed?)!

What’s more, we get a Fashion Photographer freelance career, and we can actually build our own photography studio! I suggest getting the Get Famous expansion pack is a must for this one, not just because of the Fame System, but also because of the amazing social media / streaming / video editing features it offers.

My First Pet Stuff (March 2018)

Buy My First Pet Stuff from EA for 9.99$ / 9.99€ / 9.99£ or get it cheaper here (g2a).

My First Pet Stuff is a stuff pack clearly aimed to those who own the Cats & Dogs expansion, since almost everything it adds is extra clothing and items for your pets, as well as small doors they can use to move around.

The main addition of the stuff pack is the ability to get Rodents at home (hamsters, rats, hedgehogs & a special surprise!). Your Sims will be able to maintain a full fledged relationship with their rodents while taking care of them.

Laundry Day Stuff (January 2018)

The Sims 4 Stuff Pack, Laundry Day Stuff

The Sims 4 Stuff Pack, Laundry Day Stuff

Release Date: January 16, 2018
New Item: Washer & Dryer
Create-A-Sim Items: 20
Build Mode Items:
48

Buy Laundry Day Stuff from EA for 9.99$ / 9.99€ / 9.99£ or get it cheaper here (g2a).

There was a great debate when The Sims 4 came out, about washers & dryers not being a part of the main game, and I was a part of it too! Laundry Day Stuff was the paid solution.

So this is the stuff pack that will let you keep your Sims and their clothes fresh, with a lot of decorations and side-items that will let you create a proper laundry room, or make a luxurious addition to your bathroom.

Toddler Stuff (August 2017)

35

Buy Bowling Night Stuff from EA for 9.99$ / 9.99€ / 9.99£ or get it cheaper here (g2a).

Am I the only one that wanted pool tables along with bowling alleys? Even if I’m not, the stuff pack doesn’t fail to deliver what the previous ones have – moar of everything? Bowling Night Stuff people?!

Your Sims will be able to bowl with their friends, and there’s even more reason to take advantage of that 3rd level basement that you thought was best kept for vampiric rituals. No. It’s better to make a bowling room there (or might be better in the roof?)

Hello I wonder why I watch some of the sims4 building mode on YouTube, may I ask where I can get the stuff pack the logo like a screwdriver what game pack or stuff pack it is? I mean like the small logo shown at the side belongs to which stuff pack or game pack

Michelle, I have also added the expansion / game / stuff pack icons on each heading of the article, to make it even easier to identify them!

Unfortunately, there’s no Sims 4 expansion with a screwdriver icon! Could you maybe share that video cause I’m curious? xD

    • Sydney Clark says:

You can get the screwdriver on the base game. Open up the cheat bar, and enter in “bb.showhiddenobjects”.
Go to the furniture tab, and search “*DEBUG*” if you entered in the cheat correctly, you should see “**DEBUG**”show up in the search so you don’t need it to be perfect. Click on one of the debugs, and you’ll see a bunch of items that you can only get through in-game actions, screwdrivers being one of them. I use them a lot for realistic clutter.

    • Narella says:

The screwdriver shows custom content or hidden things 🙂
