Cities: Skylines expansions are too many to count.. yet we did! Paradox is a publisher that likes DLCs, and it would be unreasonable to make an exception for the best city-builder on the market! Hopefully, not all of the expansions are necessary to get more of what you love in the game, since most of them follow a quite different gameplay direction.
There are 3 “types” of DLCs for Cities: Skylines, the normal expansions, which add a lot of new mechanics & features to the game, Content Creator Packs, which are asset collections from top modders (they do get a cut of the revenue too, so props to that!), and last but not least – a Paradox favourite – Music expansions, which as you guessed enrich the in-game radio with more stations, and a ton of different genres to satisfy anyone’s city-building cravings.
So let’s dive in, and break down all the main features you will find in each expansion, hoping to make your choice-making simpler!

Main Features: Fishing Industry, Waste & Water Management
Buy from Paradox, or Steam for 12.99€
The Sunset Harbor offers many new additions to the base game, giving some much required attention to the Waste Management as well as the Water Treatment systems, making them at last a fun part of the overall city management, as well as a nice integration with the Green Cities expansion.
The main selling point is the new Fishing Industry though, which also adds a lot more purpose to any lands covered with water, doesn’t require the Industries expansion, and also offers 5 new maps to take advantage of the new mechanics! All-in-all a solid expansion, however it won’t offer much to your gameplay, unless you own all the rest of them!
Release Date: May 21, 2019
Main Features: Campus Area, Sports Team ManagementBuy from Paradox, Steam or HumbleBundle for 12.99€
Ok, the area tool is amazing, and full of possibilities. But a 3rd expansion in a row that’s based around it? It’s kind of too much, without making Campus any less good of course! You are building a future in Cities: Skylines, and how would future look without a big emphasis on the education of younger people?
Campus areas provide 3 different specializations, Trade School, Liberal Arts and University, which aim to attract more students, which will in turn create Academic Works and unlock new buildings for you! You can also build many sports facilities in them (football, basketball, baseball, track & field and swimming arenas), which will let you manage your teams, hire coaches, sell tickets, and of course – win extra money for beating your opponents!
Release Date: October 23, 2018
Main Features: Industry Area, Production Chain & LogisticsBuy from Paradox, Steam or HumbleBundle for 14.99€
Industries builds upon the area tool that Parklife introduced, adding my personally most awaited mechanic, Production Chains! There are 4 industry specializations based on the 4 main game resources, each one with its own unique building, manufacture products, needs and of course influence, to your city!
Now you can truly create a mega-city, with actual industrial zones & factories, and either focus on heavy industry – bringing more pollution and money to your city, or decide to utilize nature in a less harmful way, providing your citizens with high-quality goods.
Release Date: May 24, 2018
Main Features: Park Area, Unique BuildingsBuy from Paradox, Steam or HumbleBundle for 14.99€
Parklife introduces a new amazing tool in Cities: Skylines, which lets us define an area in the city (similar to how we define districts), and turn it into a park area! Why is it exciting? Because you can actually customize park areas to a great extent, and define their amenities, decorations & paths one by one.
What’s more, you can choose a specialization for your park (amusement park, nature reserve, city park or zoo), which will also provide you with different building and utilities, giving your city a whole new look and purpose!
Release Date: October 19, 2017
Main Features: 350 Eco-Friendly Assets, Specialization Level-upBuy from Paradox, Steam or HumbleBundle for 12.99€
Probably the most awaited expansion since Cities: Skylines came out, Green Cities is here at last, to let us build a truly eco-friendly city – with all the hardships and benefits this could have into our own society as well! A massive amount of new assets & buildings can truly make your city feel unique, with anywhere from electric cars to alternative eco-services.
Noise & Sound Pollution also get a new meaning with Green Cities, making each of your choices more impactful in a positive.. or negative way! Going green was too inefficient up to now, but not anymore! A must-have expansion!

Concerts is a mini-expansion, which lets you host music events in your city! EDM, Rock, Pop & Folk bands and imagery are available for you to manage directly, with the goal of achieving the highest ticket & merch sales.
New music related buildings will breathe new life into your city, so especially if you find this on sale, it’s a steal!

Main Features: Ferries, Blimps, Cable Cars, Monorails & New RoadsBuy from Paradox, Steam or HumbleBundle for 12.99€
If solving traffic problems, and envisioning to create a city that’s totally rid of (nasty) car pollution, then Mass Transit is made for you! Adding 4 different transport systems to the already growing list, and a Mass Transit Hub that can bring all of your services together, is the wet dream of any proper traffic-solver.
A new collection of roads, bridges and canals also open up more possibilities for creative traffic solutions, and maybe bring you one step closer to make the traffic system of your Megapolis actually work!
Release Date: November 29, 2016
Main Features: Natural Disasters & PreventionBuy from Paradox, Steam or HumbleBundle for 14.99€
If you’ve played Cities: Skylines for a fair amount of time, I’m sure that you’ve had quite unfortunate outcomes many times. Natural Disasters wants to make your life.. worse, by adding, well, natural disasters to the recipe! Your city can experience earthquakes, thunderstorms, tsunamis, forest fires, tornadoes, sinkholes and meteors!
That’s a long list of destruction right there, and you will of course be given various tools & services to help you prevent (or recover from) natural disasters, giving you a higher sense of responsibility against your people, and your city expansion harder to setup or predict. If you are looking for a greater challenge from Cities, then this might be it.

Main Features: Winter Weather, Tram TransportBuy from Paradox, Steam or HumbleBundle for 12.99€
Snowfall is one of these expansions that really give you the feeling it should have been a feature of the main game.. It’s not worth the price tag, but it definitely makes the game more complete and interactive. As you have guessed, the main feature of Snowfall is adding winter mechanics to Cities, and not much else.
One of the most interesting mechanics is the heating system, which becomes a necessity for the night time (which comes with After Dark), and an additional power overhead you have to take care of. There are indeed many new assets, visuals & weather mechanics making it a beautiful expansion, but also a bad choice if you’re paying for the full price tag.
Release Date: September 24, 2015
Main Features: Day & Night Cycle, Leisure & Tourist Specialization, Expanded City ServicesBuy from Paradox, Steam or HumbleBundle for 14.99€
After Dark is the 1st expansion Cities: Skylines ever released, adding a long-wanted feature – the Day & Night Cycle. Traffic, crime, heating needs (which arrived with Snowfall), and pretty much all of your services’ activity will vary based on the time of the day. What’s more, you can now allocate a different budget on each sector, based on the day or night schedule, allowing for a way better micro-management experience, really making your city feel more alive!
Commercial areas also get a whole new meaning with After Dark, since you can choose two additional specializations for them: Leisure, which will define a commercial area as more appropriate for entertainment activities, therefore making it far more active (and noisy) during the night, and Tourism, which focuses on hospitality services and beach activities, inevitably raising your city’s Tourists.
