Sony stormed the gaming world with its first handheld, offering amazing graphics at the time, great portability, and an amazing game library. Marketed as a portable gaming console, the PSP sold over 80 million units across the globe dropping five different versions, 1370 games released during its 10-year life span, and a dozen colors and limited edition variations.
Today we are here to offer you a complete list of every PSP variation including all five versions (PSP-1000, PSP-2000, PSP-3000, PSP-Street, PSP-Go), just keep in mind that some of these variations are exclusive to Japan.

The PlayStation Portable Fat, or PSP-1000, was the first model to be produced. Sony designed this model to be a tank, with a sturdy casing and buttons that could withstand a lot of use. The fat has a sleek design, a 4.3-inch LCD screen, and weighs 280g (with the battery).
Uniquely, the device came with a memory card allowing the player to store games, music, images, and video. Physical collectors will also find themselves right at home with a UMD drive that can be opened using a slider, the UMD was built with a durable look, strong doors, and a lens that could survive years of use.
The battery was also a strong aspect of this first model, allowing the player to game on the device for 5 hours or more, depending on the brightness level and the games played.

Known as the PSP Slim or just PSP 2000, the PlayStation Portable 2000 was Sony’s attempt to provide a lighter device with the same features as the original model. It is intended for those who want a more compact version of the original model with equivalent processing power.
The LCD screen kept its shape and appearance while adding a setting to toggle scanlines on and off; this was a brilliant idea since the PSP can also play digital PS1 games; the scan lines give the old games a better look and an imitation of the retro look of an old CRT TV.
The battery life has also been improved, with up to 6 hours of gameplay when playing digital games and much less when playing directly from the UMD drive. This model also includes additional internal storage, allowing players to save their games without the need for a memory card. Another notable feature of this new model is the ability to output the PSP video signal directly to your TV via a specific AV cable and, preferably, a CRT TV.

The PSP 3000 retained the same slim design as its predecessor, with minor tweaks here and there. The most noticeable change to this model is the LCD screen, which now has more vibrant colors, less ghosting, and non-reflective technology for players who enjoy outdoor gaming.
This model also included a built-in microphone for online play, allowing the player to communicate with his friends without the need for any additional accessories. While the battery is very similar to the original slim model, it is slightly underpowered when compared to the 2000 model, but it still performs better than the original model.

The PSP GO has an even slimmer design, but at the cost of the UMD drive, collectors who want to play physical games should avoid this model since it cannot play physical games. On the other hand, the Go offers the best handheld for digital gaming, with up to 16 GB of internal storage and the ability to add more using memory cars. The PSP Go adopted a side design where the buttons are beneath the small LCD screen, allowing the player to simply slide the screen to reveal the bottom buttons and play.
Additionally, the PSP GO maintained its predecessor capabilities with good Wi-Fi support, giving access to the PlayStation store as well as web browsing. Furthermore, the Go has Bluetooth capabilities, allowing players to connect their favorite headsets or even send some files using Bluetooth technology.
The battery also retains its predecessor’s power, with up to 6 hours of gameplay depending on the game and settings. While this model was a huge controversy among fans, it still offers a lot, especially for people who are looking to mod their PSP and go full digital.

Out of all the models on this list, the PSP Street (officially known as the PSP-E1000) is my least favorite, despite the amazing design Sony decided to weirdly take out some major capabilities, including stereo sound, and the ability to connect to the internet. This meant that you couldn’t access the PlayStation Store, leaving the player with only physical games in hand.
The battery life was fairly decent, comparable to the mighty Slim model, allowing the player to play for 5 hours or more depending on the settings and the game intensity. While these aspects might throw you off this model, I must admit that the price is very budget-friendly given what this model can do, if you’re tight on the budget and want to only play physical games, the PSP Street was made for you!

Doesn’t ring any bells! We’re looking into it and will let you know if we find it!
Please let us know as well if you happen to find it!
You forgot one Value edition exclusive to japan which has shiny black backside and red on front side.
Thanks for the remark Rahul! We have already added this edition, but also added the backside in order to make it more clear! It’s the Red/Black Value Pack PSP 3000.
