Since its introduction, the Nintendo 3DS has been a strong pillar of the long-running Nintendo consoles. As a direct successor to the Nintendo DS, the 3DS retains the same features while adding additional horsepower and unique 3D capabilities. The 3DS library was equally impressive, with a solid lineup of first-party titles and a massive number of third-party titles spanning all genres.

When it comes to first-party games, Mario games always come first, and the 3DS did not disappoint, offering over 29 titles comprising the main series, spin-offs, and sequels. In today’s article, we are going to compile a list of all Mario games on the Nintendo 3DS, divided into two main categories: Main Games, and Spin-offs.

Super Mario 3D Land is an excellent 3D adaptation of the basic Mario formula. This incredible game fully utilizes the 3DS hardware, offering the enormous Mario experience on the go. The user will guide Mario across several landscapes, bouncing between levels, avoiding obstacles, and transforming into other forms. As previously noted, the game is fully in 3D, which means the player can move in any direction, as opposed to the previous games’ side-scrolling controls. Overall, this game is a modern classic that should be experienced at least once by any Nintendo fan, or any 3DS owner, I hugely recommend checking it out.

Super Smash Bros.™ For Nintendo 3DS was mainly the fourth entry in the series alongside the Wii U version, the 3DS was released earlier with some minor tweaks and a few extra features. The game is mostly a fighting game featuring numerous characters from many game series, but notably Nintendo IPs such as Mario, Zelda, Donkey Kong, Metroid, and many more. During each combat, the goal is to knock your opponent off the stage and take out their life stocks.

The huge cast gives the player numerous choices, alongside the numerous game modes that will keep any player busy for hours upon hours. While the 3DS version is plainly inferior to the Wii U version, it still offers an incredible port of the game that pushes the hardware to its limits and offers both an incredible single-player experience and unforgettable online play.

The player can also create his character using the mii avatar, offering a unique personalized playstyle.

The gameplay remains faithful to the original series, where the player competes in various tennis matches. The player can perform various shots depending on the player’s character. As a gratifying progression mechanic, players collect a variety of gear along the way, boosting stats and granting a modest advantage in subsequent matches. Visually, the game can’t get any better with beautifully detailed characters, vibrant backgrounds, and a smooth framerate.

Mini Mario & Friends: Amiibo Challenge was Nintendo’s attempt to bring their own Toy To Life game to both the Wii U and the 3DS. The game revolves around guiding toys like Mario characters through various levels, the player can manipulate the level to guide the toys all the way to the finish line. While this seems simple, the game gets more challenging over time featuring some head-scratching puzzles, and clever tricks to come by. One of the game’s outstanding features is the inclusion of Amiibos, which the player can use to unlock new levels or even more power-ups and playable characters. All in all, Mini Mario & Friends: Amiibo Challenge is a sweet little gem, Amiibo collectors and hardcore Mario fans will enjoy it as much as I did.

Mario vs. Donkey Kong Mini was a long-running series that dated back to the Game Boy Advance’s golden days. The two 3DS games return the player to the original Mario vs. Donkey Kong game, where the player must once again save Pauline from Donkey Kong’s clutches. Both games offer a modern twist, where the player guides toys like mini Marios.

With their distinct qualities and actions, these toys necessitate strategic planning and perfect execution to ensure they safely pass through each stage. I recommend both games for any player who is looking for a good blend of both puzzle and strategy.

Puzzle & Dragons Z + Puzzle & Dragons Super Mario Bros. Edition is a compilation of two games, the original game is your typical match three puzzle game with an RPG twist and a few tweaks here and there. Puzzle & Dragons Super Mario Bros. Edition is a spin-off game featuring Mario cast in the same setting, with match-three puzzle duels and numerous options.

The story follows Mario and his friend on a new adventure where they must defeat the evil Bowser one more time. As I said above the game is heavily inspired by Mario featuring, enemies, settings, and power-ups inspired by the franchise. Furthermore, the game doesn’t merely rely on nostalgia alone, but it offers a ton of new content and twits that will keep the player busy for a long time.
