Moldugas are one of many mini-bosses in the Breath of The Wild world, these fearsome monsters can be found exclusively in the Gerudo Desert. These creatures often swim under the sand waiting for their prey to step in. Mostly they are very sensitive to sound, if the player reaches their territory and walks in without precautions they will definitely attack.

While defeating these monsters might be a bit tough for newbies, the reward makes up for it big time. Moldugas drop a variety of items, including monster parts and powerful weapons. Defeating a Molduga is a great way to get an edge in the game, so we made sure to show you how to take advantage of these powerful enemies whenever you come across them.

Remote Bombs and Melee

Alright, first things first, do not walk on the sand I repeat do not walk on the sand. Mostly you’ll find some rocks around the Moldugas stand on them and use the remote bomb to lure the monster. Once you throw your bomb the monster will directly head toward the bomb and swallow it while diving into the sky.

Detonating the bomb will stun the monster leaving him vulnerable on the floor. Now you can step on the sand and attack the monster with any melee weapon just spam the attack button. The monster will regain his consciousness once you notice he’s recovering rush back and climbs the rock one more time, rinse and repeat until the monster is down as shown in the pictures.

Urbosa’s Fury

Assuming you have already finished the Vah Naboris quest, urbosa’s Fury can be very effective in dealing massive damage to the Molduga since the lighting is one of his weaknesses.

Nothing is changed here, we’ll still use the remote bomb method to stun the monster. Once he’s stunned rush toward it and holds down the attack button to trigger the Urbosa’s Fury. The attack will be more than enough to take down half of its life, repeat one more time and the monster is already dead.

Bomb Arrows

Out of all strategies, this is my favorite you won’t even need to quit your position. All you need is a good bow and a dozen of Bomb Arrow. Since you’re already in Gerudo you can visit the local town and stack up on Bomb Arrows before heading to the Molduga location.

Once again stand on the rock and focus on the monster, you can either lure him with a remote bomb or just wait until it jumps off on its own. Once he’s in the sky unleash a bomb arrow. The explosion will deal some damage and stun the monster, once it’s stunned keep showering the monster with Bomb Arrows until its HP reaches 0.

Conclusion

Take your time there is no rush here, you can always save before confronting the Molduga. Take the opportunity to try out different things, and as always there is no right way to do it you can mix up all of this strategy and do it your style, or you can stick up to the book and do it the classic way.

On the whole, the reward is well worth it as you can see here, if you’re lucky enough the monster can drop up to two treasure chests where you could find some strong weapons with strong durability. Monster parts are also very useful for trading and brewing some powerful potions.
