TitleChamp'een of the Prairie
PlaystyleRushdown / Grounded
DifficultyEasy

Bio (website): The Future Belongs to the Young

Prairie born ‘n raised, Arizona is the youngest daughter of Texas and Minnesota, Head Bull and Cow of her cattlekind clan.

Despite her small size, she’s incredibly strong. Though lacking in experience, she’s undeterred by obstacles. Many older folks underestimate Arizona, but few are more dependable or trustworthy. When called to action, her powerful headbucks and quaking stomps send opponents flying, then she reels ’em back in with her trusty lasso.

Arizona was the only one among cattlekind with courage enough to answer the Council’s call in search of Foenum’s Champion, knowing full well what dangers she faced. Thrust into the wider outside world, Arizona tries to make sense of it all (or decides not to care) while she charges headfirst into the fray.

Concerning Cattlekind

Cattlekind of The Prairie are nomadic, real salt-of-the-earth creatures who haul their earthly possessions around in wagons across the great grasslands and canyons of southwestern Foenum.

They live simple lives, but without want for anything. The lands they roam are bountiful but just tough enough to challenge them, and their culture is rich with old traditions: hearty recipes and campfire stories kept alive through generations since before the Great War with Predator-kind.

Prairie folk are large and intimidating but exude a soft-hearted nature. Everyone is welcome, that is unless you’re fixin’ to start trouble. In a fight, cattle rely on their instincts, powerful frames, and immovable spirit, leaving the worry and thinking to the nerds.

TitleChampion of the Woodlands
PlaystyleAll-Rounder

Bio (website): A Dark Passage

Oleander, the great granddaughter of Divine Oracle Amaryllis, sensed the return of Predator-kind 13 years before the first actual sighting. Her masters in the Order of the Horn saw no need to take action, as always, urging her to trust that the power of Light Magic would keep Foenum safe.

Frustrated and desperate, she took matters upon herself. She began studying from a book of Dark Magic and eventually forged a pact with the demon trapped inside it. The evidence of her blasphemous act manifested over time as her coat began to turn a darker shade. Despite condemnation from those around her, Oleander is determined to prove that Dark Magic can be used to do good.

With the aid of her demonic companion FHTNG TH§ ¿NSP§KBL? (Fred for short), Oleander may steal energy from her opponents, eventually amassing enough to temporarily loosen Fred’s bindings so he may fight alongside her. But can she really control Fred, or will she discover the reason for his imprisonment after it’s already too late…?

Sacred Unicors

Venture deep enough into the hallowed Woodlands and you may catch a glimpse of the creatures known as a unicorns: somewhere between horse, deer, and goat; with cloven hooves, a lions’ tail, a pure white coat, and a single spiraling horn stretching from their foreheads.

For thousands of years the unicorns have served as devoted keepers of Light Magic. Their priests and priestesses use it to preserve and beautify the wild, sprouting beds of sweet-smelling flowers and shaping trees into towering spiral temples.

Under the canopy these mystic creatures keep themselves hidden, holding no interests outside their rituals and study, especially not for the other beasts of Foenum, or even the fate of Foenum itself.

TitleChampion of the Highlands
PlaystyleAll-Rounder / Tricky
DifficultyMedium

Bio (website): A Lover And A Fighter

High in the Huacaya Mountains, alpaca roam though inhospitable wilderness as their ancestors have since the dawn of time. The harsh, barren environment leaves little room for any pursuits other than raw survival.

But there is one among them who eschews their sober, serious attitude. Her name is Paprika, and she’s brimming with vigorous affection. Some say she aims to fill the world with love the land never had for her, but whatever her reasons, she feels compelled to share all she has and more, whether you’re willing or not.

Paprika is a basket case and a whole bag of tricks, tossing a variety of gifts and zipping around the stage faster than anyone is able to keep track of. Crushing embraces and surprising kisses make for some of her deadliest techniques. Once she decides you’re the love of her life, there can be no escape.

Anncient Huacaya

The Alpake of the Huacaya Mountains, or Alpacas as they are known more commonly, live as their ancestors have for thousands of years in the harsh conditions of The High Plains. They are pragmatic, rugged, sober, and serious, and have not changed one bit since a time not long after ungulates learned to control fire.

Dotted throughout this forsaken land of salted soil, cold wind, and withering rock lie ruins of civilizations long dead. There is little reason to journey into the mountains unless you’re an archaeologist, ghost hunter, or grave robber.

TitleChampion of the Meadow
PlaystylePuppet / Summoning
DifficultyHard

Bio (website): A Reluctant Hero

Sheeple are a democratic society. Upholding the will of the masses (or the flock in this case), is among their most core values. Problem is, all Sheep will vote in favor of the very first suggestion any Sheep happens to make. Pom made the mistake of suggesting that they should respond to the Council’s call for a Champion at all, and ended up being voted in as Champion herself.

Sheep Dogs, the only large predators in Foenum with instincts to protect ungulates rather than eat them, live among the Sheep and keep them safe from harm. Occasionally a pack may choose to spend most of their time around one particular Sheep over another, and Pom has found herself in the company of a rather large one as of late. Perhaps they see a burning potential building inside her… because despite her desperate cries to return to her soft, grassy homeland, they continue to urge her along.

Pom approaches combat by calling a variety of dogs onto the battlefield for coordinated strikes. Her “technical requirements” can be challenging to work with, but with proper time and coaching, she might just become the strongest fighter of them all.

Sheep Dogs of Baaah

The curious symbiotic relationship between Sheeple and their Sheep Dogs is a common point of discussion among the other ungulates of Foenum. The popular theory is that the dogs are descended from friendly omega-wolves who were harmless enough to hide with the sheep while the rest of their kind were disappearing. Whether the sheep knew there were wolves in their midst is anyone’s guess.

Sheep Dogs have no interest in eating anything that grows out of the ground. Rather, they hunt mice and rabbits, creatures that would otherwise destroy the Sheep’s crops. Unfortunately the Sheep haven’t quite caught onto this yet, so they continue trying to feed them greens, things that they consider food. It always ends up rotting away, completely untouched…

And so, Sheep Dogs serve as guardians for the Sheep, shielding them from harm, whether from outsiders, pests… or their own vacuousness.

TitleChampion of the Islands?
PlaystyleRushdown / Runstop
DifficultyHard

Bio (website): A Quest For Fame And Fortune

It is well known among the creatures of Foenum that when a goat sets her eye on something, it’s only a matter of time before she gets it.

Shanty, named after a song with no title, was taken in by notorious pirate captain Bravura after being orphaned at a very young age. She studied the ways of salt and sail, instilled with the belief that the only ones who make it in life are those brave enough to fight to the last.

For Shanty to earn a place as a true member of her pirate crew, she has to prove her worth. And it isn’t enough to meet the bar, Shanty aims to blow it out of the water. That means stealing the most valuable treasure in the world: which just so happens to be the Prophet’s Key! Only one who’s worthy? It’s gonna be Shanty!

Goatani Greats

The Islands are a haven for adventurers, scoundrels, hermits, explorers, and any creature who values freedom and independence over all else. The goats who dwell here pride themselves on their ability to reach the unreachable, to attain salt and splendor in places past the edges of modern maps.

Of those scoundrels, there is none more striking than Captain Bravura (and First Mate Ruvido) of The Capricorn, a masterpiece galley said to be built from secret plans stolen away from Jarl Stronghoof’s own shipwrights. They say she’s assembling an elite crew of only the most ruthless pirates, to ends unknown. Whatever she’s planning, it’s sure to be an exploit worthy of the Goatani Greats.

TitleJarl of Reine City
PlaystyleMid-Range / Trap
DifficultyMedium

Bio (website): Hoofstrong Legacy

The Hoofstrong family is one of the oldest, proudest legacies in Reine City, renowned for their heroic history and steadfast protection of the capital. The name “Stronghoof” is a title that replaces one’s given name. It’s granted to a hero who has achieved many great victories for Reine City against pirates, smugglers, ne’er-do-wells, and rival nations such as Huoshan.

Stronghoof and his Winter Sprite Vetr fight alongside one another, bonded by a powerful sense of brotherhood. Their combined magic and might command wind, ice, and an arsenal of conjured weaponry to take down all who dare to oppose them.

As Jarl of Reine City, Stronghoof is both a warrior and statesman, responsible for overcoming Reine City’s toughest obstacles, both home and abroad. With the current predator crisis, that might include keeping the other Champions of Foenum occupied while his daughter Velvet (the true Champion, of course) searches for the Prophet’s Key…

A Match Made in Valhalla

Throughout his many years of service, Stronghoof and his crew were occasionally sent out into Reine’s surrounding territory to track down and apprehend dangerous criminals. One such mission from his youth would become a legend: It involved the investigation of a stranded vessel flying the flag of the Goatani Greats, a notorious group of elite pirates who had been greedily plundering Reine’s treasure barges for the past few months.

The ship had no signs of life, an obvious trap, but no foe could be allowed to escape justice. Stronghoof and Vetr decided to board alone, to avoid any risk to the lives of the warriors under their command. No less than a minute after stepping hoof onto the wrecked ship, their suspicions were confirmed. An imposing ambush party of Foenum’s worst suddenly sprang from their hiding places and caught them surrounded! The ensuing battle was hard fought, and took nearly all of their strength to overcome.

But before they could declare victory, another challenger suddenly appeared, emerging from the lower hold with a ghost-like grace. She was a reindeer, alone, clad in plate armor, beautiful, but her gaze was cold. She stared Stronghoof down with calm confidence. A look that meant death.

Ah, an elite mercenary in service to the enemy! Stronghoof knew of reindeer like this; traitors to the state for salt, and powerful users of Winter Magic. This one was unfamiliar, but she seemed a worthy opponent. Stronghoof summoned every last ounce of vigor he had, and charged!

The mysterious mercenary’s antlers flashed, and a storm of razor-sharp icicles cascaded towards him. Stronghoof conjured his shield and held it aloft to absorb the blows, but there were too many. Vetr was struck instantly and fell back to recover, and as Stronghoof’s own defenses failed and pointed ice sliced into him, he fell to the deck just meters from the enemy.

Not yet! Stronghoof focused his energy into the form of a mighty ice sword and swung it towards the mercenary’s neck, only for the sword to collide with a thin pillar of frozen crystal, her own Winter Magic, conjured faster than he could blink. Stronghoof was wide open and too exhausted to defend himself in time. With one final casting, the mercenary struck back and laid Stronghoof out across the deck of the ship.

As she approached to finish him off, Stronghoof closed his eyes and prepared for the inevitable, taking solace in the fact that he was bested by a worthy foe. But when she reached him, the mercenary glanced over him and smiled. “You have talent, warrior. It would be a shame to let it go to waste. I shall let you live a little while longer.” She turned away, disappearing into a cloud of icy mist.

By now the rest of his crew had caught up with him, astonished that he still lived. They begged him to tell them the tale of his impossible victory, but this time he could not find the words. This mysterious warrior who had bested him and shown mercy was the most powerful rival he had ever faced, and already he longed for a rematch. There was not a moment to lose. Time to begin training for their next encounter…

TitleHead Bull & #1 Dad
PlaystyleGrappler
DifficultyHard

Bio (website): A Living Legend

Texas has led a storied career of adventure and carries great pride for cattlekind, symbolized by the yoke and star he bears on his back. His place as Head Bull was earned with hard work, sacrifice, and good ol’ fashioned charm!

As Arizona’s father and with the whole of Foenum at stake, he yearns to do his part in support of his daughter’s quest to save the world. So despite his age, he sets out on his own for one last journey, leaving care of the clan to his wife Minnesota, before settling down for good. (Promise!!)

Wielding twin cowbells attached by ropes to his mighty yoke, Texas uses mass and momentum to send them flying towards his opponents, reeling them into range of his heaviest strikes. Everybody knows, you don’t mess with Texas!

Stories of Old

No writing system exists among cattlekind. Their culture and history are passed down from generation to generation through storytelling, games, song, and dance.

Such old traditions may seem backwards and primitive to the more advanced civilizations of Foenum, like the posh reindeer of Reine City or the militant longma of Huoshan, but it is a way that has endured the test of time, and none can refute the strong family bonds cattlekind hold towards each other.

And true freedom comes from the heart.

About
TitleChampion of the Volcano
PlaystyleRushdown / Aerial
DifficultyEasy

Bio (website): Captain of the Imperial Guard

Longma of the Huoshan Empire are few in number but carry extraordinary heritage: half-dragon, half-horse. They believe they embody the best traits of both: peaceful minds and hardy bodies from the ungulates, iron wills and the strength to fight from the predators.

The road to perfect balance is often described as more of a tightrope. Sway too far in one direction or the other, and you could send yourself tumbling. Tianhuo’s ruthless ambition to purge herself of all weakness had manifested as cruelty to others in the past, but in the years since she has self-reformed. Now she serves as Captain of the Guard in service to Her Royal Highness the Longestma, Empress of Huoshan.

Tianhuo was the natural choice for Champion: with her unmatched physical prowess, skill with flight, and command over dragon fire. She believes she’s the only one powerful and worthy enough to save Foenum, but will pure-blooded ungulates truly accept a half-predator?

Noblest Longma

The Empire of Huoshan is a miniscule yet mighty realm where Longma warrior-citizens live to train and train to live.

Though there are a few other magical races such as they, these cross-breeds are the only in the world who are part predator, and the only ones with wings. They are highly aware of their exceptional existence, and as a result are a very proud race.

Though their diets take after their herbivorous predecessors, their dragon roots are steeped in magic and history, nobility and chivalry, and theirs is one of the few true monarchies left in Foenum.

Every subject of the Empire is a member of the military, sworn not only to protect their beloved Empress and their honored volcanic home, but all of Foenum itself. As far as the Longma are concerned, no vile, flesh-eating, full-blooded predator will enter this world without having to answer to them.

TitleChampion of Ze Tundra
PlaystyleZoner
DifficultyMedium

Bio (website): Ze Whole Floof, And Nothing But Ze Floof

Velvet enjoys premiere status as a member of Reine City‘s ruling elite, the peak of modern civilization at the center of the world, high in the frozen north. She is the daughter of Jarl Stronghoof Hoofstrong, whose family line has been passed down his family line for generations.

No deer in Reine is Velvet’s equal in the practice of Winter Magic, in form nor in function. She is perfection personified, supremacy symbolized. Those who dare challenge her will be left with nothing but a cold shoulder.

A grand tournament was held in Reine City to determine who was most fit to answer the Council’s call and become Foenum’s Champion. Velvet trounced all opposition without so much as breaking a sweat. Haven’t heard the news? Well, you’re forgiven for now. Can’t rightly blame someone for living under a rock. You’ll see… soon enough.

Deerfolk of Reine City

Reine City is Foenum’s largest and richest metropolis. It hosts the United Council of Ungulates and is located at the north pole, placing it right in the middle of everything. Literally. No matter where you are in Foenum, if you say “north” it’s the same as saying “towards Reine”. Herds from all four corners of the world visit to trade, socialize, delight in a variety of modern amenities, or simply pass through.

The magic that first built and still sustains Reine (and other deer cities) originates from a race of mysterious, elf-like creatures known as Winter Sprites. No one really knows where they came from, but one thing’s for sure: they have an obsessive fascination with reindeer.

The sprites treat the deer like pets without actually owning them, and the deer treat the sprites like servants without actually bossing them around. It’s an extraordinary symbiotic relationship: the sprites are happy and entertained, and the deer live a life of privilege and luxury.

Don’t be fooled by the deerfolk’s dainty frames and affinity for laying on soft pillows. They have a storied history as explorers and warriors. In old times they used to sail about and raid each other’s cities for sport, though admittedly the practice has declined (just too much effort). Nowadays they satisfy their competitive nature by hosting tournaments of all sorts (which Velvet frequently wins).
